So I just got the letter from my consultant about my liver being compensated. It’s says normal synthetic liver function. Not heard this before? Has anyone else?

Think it means bilirubin, albumin etc.

Yeah so I’ve worked out, rather than the enzymes(Alt,AST etc.)

Thanks. Those blood results were ten months after I stopped drinking. My mates a doctor and he said my recovery has been astounding. I feel very lucky.

Trying to believe. I need to get out and about and some normality back in my life. Outward thinking instead of inwards!

Bit lacking of NHS not to explain technical mumbo jumbo. And I've searched NHS type sites and they all seem lacking.

The synthetic sounds like a plastic liver!

A compensated / decompensated liver?

I googled since NHS won't help

clinicaladvisor.com/home/fe....

Page explain Afew things. 'Find in page' search for 'synthetic' will lead to synthetic function definition.

Synthetic function. The tests of synthetic function in the liver include prothrombin time (PT)/international normalized ratio (INR), platelet count and albumin level. Abnormal results indicate disease that has caused loss of proteins or inability to synthesize proteins.

That's a USA site.. So whether UK uses some different definition.. Nobody knows.
