New and feeling very scared.

I believe I have severe liver damage from alcohol. I open the wine on a Friday night and unwind from a stressful job. I then repeat this on Saturday. I have done this on and off for over 20 years. I am currently awaiting the results of an ultrasound and I have blood tests today. I have felt run down since before Xmas and put this down to the stress of work, lockdown etc. Two weeks ago I started to feel worse and didn’t go to work. (I can’t imagine returning to work feeling like I do.) The pain in my back, side and stomach is constant, I feel sick, tired, have a horrid taste in my mouth and no appetite. I also can’t sleep . I have lost 3/4 stone in under two weeks. I suspect I have worse to follow. I feel deeply ashamed and I am very scared.

Why have you gone ?

Hi,

Well done for taking some steps to find out about and improve your liver health. If you are in the UK, why don't you consider calling our nurse led helpline for a supportive chat?

Hi, I know it’s scary but you won’t be judged here, you’re doing the right thing by working with your doc on this matter, just be open with them like you were and they will help sort this out. Please let us know how things go
