The doctor who asked me would I go into a hospice....

Hi everyone. I just want to share this experience with a visiting doctor who asked me that question in February when I come out of hospital. I was badly Decompensated and nearly died. I was close to giving up and Googled my way into despair.

It has been a really tough time but I have within a few months of really looking after myself got to a better place. I am not drinking, not smoking, eating healthy and building up my exercise. My ascites is under control,(was drained of 16 litres in hospital), I no longer weigh 7 stone...I am over 10. My muscle mass is nearly normal, my bloods have improved. I still suffer with some issues, mainly fatigue, concentration and dizziness. I am going to the Royal Free for a transplant assessment and need to accept the outcome.

I haven't beaten this by a long shot but I am here, not in a hospice and taking my son bowling and cinema on Friday 😊.

I guess I wanted to share this for anyone who is newly diagnosed. Be careful who you take advice from. People on here are great! Listen to your consultant . Do not self diagnose on Google and stay away from bad GPs!

Hi,I can't to make sense out of what happened to me,I was admitted twice last year with GI bleeds, I haven't drank in well over a year ! But wasn't I thought a big drinker,sorry to ask,what was your fibro scan reading,just curious,sorry,I have varices and portel hypertension, but no acites.but said it was cirrhosis.

Hi Charloy,I also have varices (grade 2) and portal hypertension but I have never had a Fibro Scan. I have had a CT scan and an MRI soon.

Well done for all the effort and good work you have done to get this far. To be considered for a transplant assessment means that they are confident that you are a good candidate. As part of the assessment, they will ask you to put your affairs in order and making arrangements, should the worst happen, so it’s a good idea to have a think about that.

Regards asking about putting things in order and maybe making a will they ask you things like that it's hard doing the assessment to see if ur fit enough without anything else they certainly didn't ask me about putting things in order fearing the worst so it's something less to worry about, all the best

Very good and you showed strength in in getting to were you are now, unfortunately it's an ongoing thing to keep doing and I hope you keep going, there may well be days you feel like what on earth but try stick with it.
