Eggs are a great source of protein - my hubby eats 2 for lunch every day with bread. Carbs and protein are required when you have advanced liver illness.

Thankyou x
Aren't eggs bad for cholesterol?
I’ve always eaten omelettes and frittatas . I’m a very healthy weight and always have been .
I was just asking the lovely people on here if they were still ok with liver disease as I’m new .
I don’t know what has caused mine yet I have an mri this morning after it showed up on gastroscopy and ct scan .
I’ve never smoked or drank so it’s been a big shock because I’ve always tried to look after myself .
I would do anything to try and make this illness better and I thought I could start with eating food that doesn’t make things worse .
Thankyou for replying

Eggs and cholesterol
Having high cholesterol levels in our blood increases our risk of heart disease.
Although eggs contain some cholesterol, the amount of saturated fat we eat has more of an effect on the amount of cholesterol in our blood than the cholesterol we get from eating eggs.
If a GP or health professional has told you to watch your cholesterol levels, your priority should be to cut down on saturated fat across your diet. You can get advice in Eat less saturated fat.
If you are eating a balanced diet, you only need to cut down on eggs if you have been told to do so by a GP or dietitian.
Not a lot wrong with eggs when it comes to the liver. Dietician was happy for me to eat eggs. Its a good source of protein.
Thankyou

Eggs are a healthy protein and good for the liver.
Bread does not care if you put eggs on them. 😊
egg whites are an even healthier source of protein. In fact, egg whites are 100% albumin. Two egg whites contain 7.2 grams of protein.
My husband eats 5-6 Egg white everyday ...
You had some lovely advice about eating egg whites, but I was told not to add salt to anything and avoid salty foods!
Yes I read that too . I don’t use salt in cooking anyway so I won’t miss it . Thankyou
Low sodium not zero sodium . Body still need sodium . And my husband checking electrolyte Every month , for sodium ,Potassium and Sodium should be between mmol /L 136-145 (mEq/L). and his sodium ok ... so little bit of salt it ok for him
Thankyou I haven’t got a diet to follow yet . I’m still waiting to see what I have .
I have ulcerative colitis and one of the triggers is a protein which occurs in egg yolks, so I haven't eaten one or anything containing them for 60 years - I still have liver disease caused in part by the u.c.. Conclusion? - not eating eggs doesn't seem to help, but bear in mind everyone is different.
All the best.
