Liver Stones

I had my Gallbladder taken out in Feb 2019. A couple of months earlier I had been very poorly and went an amazing shade of yellow. I had an ERCP done then which worked like a charm. Anyway, after 6 months my pains started to come back quite badly. Eventually I have been diagnosed with stones. I have had another ERCP done, but they couldn't remove them. I am shortly due to have a more specialised procedure done with a spyglass. I spend quite a bit of time feeling quite feeble and in a lot of discomfort. I seem to have good spells too though. Any comments would be most welcome.

I had mine removed over 4 weeks ago. i am in the same pain, same place and permanent. I am seeing the consultant again but not until end June! After sitting in pain all day today im getting a bit tearful, so I sympathise with you on the pain and discomfort...

Can I ask what you mean by stones?, I thought they go once the gallbladder is gone?

I was told that too. Apparently I still have stones in my liver. I did also have one trapped in my bile duct six monthsafter my op, but that cleared itself. From what I can gather it is extremely rare though.Hope that you soon improve.

See if you can obtain the book l mentioned in another post, Andreas Moritz, liver and Gallbladder Miracle Flush. Lots of explanation and ideas on diet.

Longtooth6 Whilst we appreciate the importance of diet, the British Liver Trust would not recommend any advice via a diet book that promotes ' gallbladder miracle flushes'

All advice for a stone that may be stuck in the bile duct or liver must come from the hepatology or gastro team looking after the forum member. Additionally all diet guidance should ideally come via the medical team and hospital registered dietitian.

Hi - When I had acute gallstone pancreatitis in July 2019, I had emergency surgery to remove the gallbladder. My surgeon at the time said that on occasion during surgery a gallstone might spill and cause problems later, but that it usually does not happen. He said that if it did, my Gastroenterologist would have to remove the stone. I began to periodically have discomfort similar to the pressure I felt prior to the surgery, but it would come and go. In October 2020 I ended up with severe pain and pressure in the same area: under the breast bone and surrounding me into my back. I also became jaundiced. My LFTs elevated as did my bilirubin and lipase. A gallstone had spilled during my surgery to remove the gallbladder and it had been moving around causing problems some of the time. The stone eventually ended up inside my bile duct and it remained there causing the constant pain. My Gastroenterologist did the ERCP procedure to remove the stone from my bile duct and I’ve been fine since then. So the gallstone had bounced around inside me for 15 months causing problems at times. So though it’s not common, a stone can spill during surgery to remove the gallbladder.
