Varices

Hi I’ve have liver cirrhosis and when I found out I gave up alcohol totally and that’s been 5 years now . I have scans every 6 months and tomorrow I’m having an endoscopy to check for varice’s I’m so worried and wondered if anyone else has varices . My scan was fine and I feel well but my Bilirubin was 33 this time on bloods . Not sure if that’s really high and if it’s a sign of varices . Feel anxious 😟

Hi there, I had the endoscopy to check for varices but there wasn't any I hope you get the same news I think it may be standard practice because I've had it done twice xx

Try not worry as I was diagnosed with varices three years ago and have had endoscopies for banding and all has been well and I feel better knowing their under control.Astro

Hi, I’ve had grade 4 varices this time last year they found them mine are due to a non cirrhotic portal vein thrombosis. This all came as a massive shock to me and I remember walking out very upset because I didn’t fully understand why I had them at that point until I had a CT.

I’ve had banding 6 times so far and it looks like they are finally under control, my last about 4 weeks ago, I will be due to go back for (fingers crossed) the final time soon to see how they are.

I feel anxious every time knowing what is coming, I would suggest having sedation if possible. As worse as it sounds at least if they know they are there they will treat you rather than the alternative and not knowing!

How did your endoscopy go?

Hi ! Thanks for asking , I had varices and they banded them . One was very large and had red spot so relieved they got to it when they did . They also found something in my tummy and it looks like a gist so had a biopsy done to check ,this isn’t was I was hoping especially as I now have googled it . Not sure if it’s linked to my liver but just need to wait for results . I’ve got the most awful heart burn and been up all night but think that is common , I hope so , .
