Can ascites just be present on one side of the abdomen? When I press on on my abdomen near my liver I can hear what sounds like fluid or gas squishing that doesn’t happen on the other side....I’ve been feeling bloated but I am pretty thin and my stomach looks normal.
Right abdomen slightly more pronounced... - British Liver Trust
Right abdomen slightly more pronounced than left side and squishy sounds when I press on it.
Good afternoon,
Ascites (the kind associated with liver disease as opposed to other conditions) generally only occurs in the presence of a severely damaged cirrhotic liver (decompensated). The fluid will move around as body position changes. It can sometimes just be more one sided if there are pockets of ascites (loculated) .
It would be unusual to have ascites in the presence of normal liver blood tests.
Physical examination by a doctor and/or an ultrasound scan would show if there was ascites present in the abdomen.
regards
Thank you for the reply.
Don't know anything about squishiness, but I developed an occult hernia or varicocele a little over 3.5 years ago. Average weight and very in shape. I get heaviness and what looks like a fatty bulge to the left and just under the navel. Finally got rid of all midsection fat, and it was still there. Get the same heaviness in the groin (among other stuff), but no bulge, and no scans or exams have found anything. Finally getting the surgeon MRI that I knew I would end up needing after already spending enough to get 2 or 3 MRI's. Anyway, you could definitely have a hernia. They're not always cut and dry, and symptoms can be non-existent or all over the place. It's definitely driven me insane the past few years. I'll message back if I finally get an answer about what it is.
