After enjoying some cheese and chutney the other day, by chance, we noticed the ingredients included white wine vinegar. I often cook with this too, it had never occurred to me about the alcohol? I don't want to sabotage my husbands abstinence- does anyone know if this is actual alcohol?

I asked the same question in my transplant assessment, the alcohol counsellor had to have a think about it and then we decided that however small the risk, it wasn’t worth taking the chance. The same goes for a red wine gravy etc.
If you leave a bottle of wine unopened & exposed to the air, then taste it, it will taste sour. This is because the alcohol has been oxidized to an acid. The two are chemically different. The acid is referred to as a " vinegar", so you are not exposing your hubby to alcohol. Most people probably don't understand the chemistry behind this process, but this is something I have studied, so........Enjoy cooking with it🙂
I thought vinegar was supposed to be good for your liver? I take a little shot every day.
