Hi has anyone on here been diagnosed with a Hydatid liver cyst. A 12x12cm cyst was discovered on my liver by chance during an ultrasound a few weeks ago, I then went for a liver ct scan a week and a half later and they think it is a Hydatid Liver Cyst. I’ve got bloods booked for next Friday to test for this and also waiting for an app for an mri and to see a liver surgeon.

Has anyone on here been diagnosed with a Hydatid liver cyst?
Yes I was about 18 month ago. I had the mri , ct scans and a fibroscan . The cyst has burnt itself out and they discharged me. I do have nafld though which they said lose weight and exercise more
Hi Pink
I was wondering what happened regarding your cyst, as I have one of a very similar size. It seems mine has been growing for 15 years + am waiting for another ct scan after hospital decided wanted to leave it for another 6 months to see if it has grown. They have at last decided they will deroof it but due to covid are leaving it as long as able. Hope your keeping well.
Hi Dobby17My blood results eventually came back and the consultant was very surprised that the result was negative for a Hydatid cyst. So I now have to wait for an mri and then get a surgical opinion. I have multiple cysts but the largest is 9x9cm. I’m wondering if it could possibly be polysistic liver disease? .
Does your cyst cause you any problems? Hope your keeping fine too x
Hi Pink
Sometimes I get like a dull ache under my rib cage, and I was admitted to hospital last year as it became very painful, but they said it was an inflammation, that’s when they found it had grown from year before, mine is 12 cm. I think they would have de roofed it then but Covid, before then they wasn’t going to do anything but now have decided to drain it, as it is pressing on my portal vein and bile duct. Just waiting for scan. Happy Easter and keep me posted x
Hello,I have six likely to be benign liver tumours. I get pain daily x
I had a 6 month follow up mri scan 6 weeks ago and the hospital called yesterday to say that it is definitely a Hydatid cyst (the large one and the smaller ones). They have said that due to the location being near a major vein they cannot operate so will go down the drugs route. They are going to have another meeting about it and get in touch in the new year with a plan. At least I know what kind of cysts they are now but still a bit grossed out by it. Roll on the new year to start treatment.
