People can go on with cirrhosis 15 or 20 years. ..But you have to take meticulous care of yourself

You may find our publications 'liver disease tests explained' and also 'Cirrhosis of the liver' useful to read:

Please do see your own medical team to discuss your test results.

If the cirrhosis does not progress and your liver is still functioning, you can go on as long as people without liver disease. In other words, you have a normal lifespan. The key is to not get any worse. Better yet, try to get better each day, month and year. Be your liver's friend. I eat plant-based to maintain a low-inflammation state in my body in general and my liver in particular. What you should eat depends on what type of liver disease you have. I have autoimmune hepatitis so not eating meat and dairy works great for me. Same for fatty liver disease. If you have alcohol problems, others on this forum can better advise you. Many of them eat meat, fish, dairy and feel the better for it. Also, move each day, walking helps. Wishing you so much luck. Don't be afraid. Just take care of yourself each day.
