Try and remain calm and positive

I work in the field of mental health and have a lot of client and personal experience in anxiety especially. A mentor once said to me ask this question when you are worrying. ' Is it of any use?' The answer of course is always 'No'. Worrying about something does not change it, and yes I do realise we all worry, and have a right to, but untill you have the actual facts in front of you then try and stay positive. Symptoms can often be anxiety based, if you think it you can feel it. I have talked to many people on this site who are convinced they have various liver worries, and when the results come back, suddenly the symptoms are relieved. Many quote various LFT's, ie their GGT levels are up etc. You need to understand that often LFT's and other bloods can be elevated for many, many reasons, and not all liver related. Your Dr will often use them as a starting point and then follow that up with imaging scans he/she thinks are relevant to detect any possible or future damage. Even if you have been diagnosed with liver damage there is a lot you can do to improve things, with a change in lifestyle etc etc. It also means discussing with Drs the best option of treatment. The point is this, while its hard not to worry when your facing some tests and its unknown territory, try to stick to the facts as far as you know them, and try not to read too much into blood tests until they are followed up with the additional tests and prognosis. Remember that some liver issues don't even manifest in either symptoms or elevated bloods, so there are thousands that are the walking unwell. If you have a life that has maybe compromised your liver with alcohol, medications, weight gain etc it is a good idea anyway to annually maybe look to have a fibrascan, it is a simple and relatively inexpensive option for testing fatty liver and fibrosis of same. I wish everybody here a Happy Christmas, mind your livers and hopefully all your results are positive.
