Liver transplant

I have had liver cirrhosis now since August, but still not had the courage to see a doctor, I am going to talk to doctor today. I know that in reality I am going to die, I am only 44 but I succumbed to the dreadful drinking of whiskey. My only hope is a liver transplant, but I fear that I am too late

How did you get diagnosed without seeing a doctor?

You have to have abstained from drinking alcohol for at least 6 months then you can be considered. So well done keep it up. Hope your doc can help and reassure you.

Gordon there are a lot of wonderful people on here. Some have not got much time left, but everyone tries their best to encourage each other and where we can we try to help anybody!!

I may be wrong, after all I’m not infallible, but your posts are jumping all over the place. You do not reply to anyone who posts a reply to you, That is just bad manners. I just hope that I can use the excuse for you,if you are ill you are not thinking properly. Please show respect as we are trying to show you and just use one post to tell us all your problems and believe it or not we truly, really want to help you.

Hi Gordon, I'm not sure which stage you are at, but as Cammeag said, you do appear to be all over the place. If your liver has now become decompensated, then you may have developed, hepatic encephalopathy, which is something I have personal knowledge of. This could explain your posts. It's due to the toxins building up in your brain, and symptoms can be similar to dementia, you need others to point out your changing behaviour, as you are unlikely to notice the changes yourself, even when things get bad. Believe me though, this is not the end, and there is medication that can help keep the symptoms under control, however the only treatment is a transplant, which isn't the end of the world. If you do get diagnosed with HE, you will be referred for transplant assessment, if you haven't already. Please speak to your GP immediately, and even though you may not be able to reply back individually to people, I'm sure everyone, who has read your posts only has your best interests at heart.
