Hi everyone, I've been taking a centrum multivitamin, omega 3, and vitamin d supplement for just over a year now but recently got some choline as I have read in a few places it's good for liver problems however a search on here brings up nothing about choline. Does anyone else take it or have been told it might help cheers
Supplements, choline, etc.: Hi everyone... - British Liver Trust
Supplements, choline, etc.
Hi Gbsteve. It would be better to eat the foods which contain choline. Only take suppliments which are prescribed or agreed to by your liver specialist. Best wishes
Laura
You should be very careful about taking supplements they aren't subject to quality control and could contain contaminant that could harm your liver. I take vitamin D because my doctor told me to take it but I would be very careful about taking something like choline. If you want it I would eat a few eggs they contain it and my doctor has told me to eat a high protein diet. So I eat 6 eggs a week.
isnt there choline in your multi vitamin...sometimes in with the B's...
Good morning Gbsteve,
I can only reiterate what the forum members have said- please discuss any supplements with your liver specialist/GP or pharmacist.
I have included a link to our info regarding complementary medicines and supplements.

Hi everyone. The multivitamin doesn't contain any choline or omega 3 and very little vitamin d and when I asked my GP about it she said they were fine to take however I don't really hold up much faith in her (as bad as that sounds) While she's tried referring me to a specialist she's also said it's unlikely I'll be seen as my blood tests 'aren't too bad' whatever that means. Overall it's frustrating as I've had this fatty liver for several years but was told that's normal (see my other post for details) and after telling my GP about the NAFLD all I'm being told is to loose a stone or two to bring down my BMI
Hi Steve. So it appears you have fatty liver so your doctor is absolutely right you just need to lose weight. Eat foods low in fat and sugar. Avoid takeaways and other junk food, snacking and alcohol. These are foods which cause fatty liver. Instead go for fresh fruit and veg, fresh fish and lean meats. Drink plenty of water and get fresh air and regular daily exercise. So stop worrying, make those changes and embrace a new, fitter, healthily you.
Best wishes. Laura
