Hi everyone, I have decompensated cirrhosis diagnosed after blood not clotting 3 months ago and ended up in hospital for 10 days 3 months ago - went under the radar for many years but that another story.
I have broken a tooth which looks like it will need removing. Told to call for emergency appt at 8am but after looking on the site looks like this could be s problem.
Any pearls of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ian

Make sure that you let your dentist know your diagnosis and what medication you are on. It sounds like your platelets are very low, it’s common with cirrhosis.
You will probably need to be referred to a hospital for further treatment.
My husband has ESLD and very low platelets. He needs to have some teeth removed, when we spoke to the dentists they wanted to know what his platelet count was, if it is below a certain level then they wouldn't even do a single extraction and they would refer you for you for treatment. My husband will need to be admitted and have plasma before they do the surgery as it is very low so it is worth checking what your latest platelet count is with the GP and sharing this with the dentist so that they can make a call on whether it is safe to do it or they need to refer.
The dentist said if they won't do anything if the platelets are less than 80,000 and my husbands are around 40,000, that's about as much as I know He has to have all his teeth removed, hopefully before Christmas but looking doubtful at this rate. I keep singing "all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth" to him, he is not amused
HaHa! Thanks for your help. I’ll try and do s bit of research.

Thank you for calling the helpline.
Just to reiterate, and as the other forum members have suggested, please make sure both your dentist and liver doctors are aware of your situation to ensure that appropriate, safe treatment can be provided.
