Hi, not there yet but apparently very close, and I wanted to ask about the tests to see if you're fit for transplant. How do they test you if you can't do the bike test. As a wheelchair user from disability not associated with liver, I stand no chance but will that cause me problems?
Transplant bike test: Hi, not there yet... - British Liver Trust
Transplant bike test
I wouldn't have thought so. There are blood tests and lots of scans etc to be done. They will adapt tests to suit your ability. Good luck x
What they are interested in is cardiac capacity and I am sure that there are tests that will allow them to do this in your case. Among others will include a lung capacity test which simply involves blowing into a tube. Best wishes
I had my transplant in February this year & because of my disability I didn't have the bike test. There are other ways to get round this so dont worry. I was walked round the ward with my arm linked with the arm of the consultant & the whole time he kept me talking. We walked at my pace but he made sure I could keep a conversation going will I walked. I wish you all the best with your transplant & the new life you will have after you've had it. Hopefully it wont be long now.
I had a transplant 11 months ago. The tests I underwent prior to this did not include a bike test. I spent two days in hospital having a series of scans together with blood tests and respiration, heart function tests. I was treated with support and courtesy throughout.
Hey when I had my transplant 5 years ago I had a pretty strenuous treadmill test and had to climb up to floors while holding a conversation I asked why such a hard test and they told it wad all to with your heart and lung capacity to see if it id strong enough to handle the surgery. So im sure they will test you in other ways. Hope everything goes well for you.
