Is 74 ALT high??
Hi there - no one here is qualified to give you medical advice, however, as I'm sure you are aware that score is outside the normal range and I would hope you are investigating with your doctor. Personally I find my ALT varies a lot - I've had it significantly higher than this and significantly lower. I guess my point here is that you can't look at one test in isolation, there are plenty of reasons for elevated ALT including muscle injuries. My suggestion is (i) don't panic, (ii) don't google, (iii) see a doctor and get it investigated. You should get to the bottom of why it is elevated,
all the best
Paul.
Elevated yes, very high no - ALT levels can rise into 1000's when your liver is unwell.
There can be many reasons behind a mild rise in ALT - things like having another infection like a cold can do it, it can be elevated if you've been exercising.
A one off blip wouldn't concern doctors but they should look to repeat tests in a wee while to check there isn't an ongoing rise.
Katie
Hi,
Reported reference ranges do vary, so it would be a good idea to discuss this result with the doctor that ordered your liver blood test.
