I have done usg in 2017 which showed mild spleenomegaly of 12.7 cm spleen and irregular liver outline and coarse liver with fibrosis and fibroscan yielded 9.4kpa with high hbv dna load. i had hepatitis b from 2003 and after that usg i began to take antiviral and for past three years hbv dna is undetected. Do i hv cirrhosi? In case of cirrhosis is there any chance of reversal? And always i feel fatigue and occasionally sgpt and bilirubin rise mildly especially in summer. I hv become more lean lost lot of sub cutaneous fat and muscle. How can i build little more muscle and for that can i take protein powder or shake. What about beetroot juice? Can i take it?

Hello Spa1981, welcome to the forum. Looking at an understanding your Fibroscan score chart a kPa score of 9.4 where Hepatitis B is the cause isn't yet full on cirrhosis - it is sitting in the F2-F3 category so hopefully with your viral load being treated and inflammation coming under control there might be some hope of reversal.

I see you are in Bangladesh so I am not sure which religious group you fall into or what impact that has on your diet i.e. which proteins you can eat but you do need to have good levels of protein, eggs are fantastic , also carbohydrate to make sure your body stops using your muscles for fuel.

All the best,

Katie

Thank you, katie. I belong to hindu religion and eggs are indeed very good but i always afraid of LDL though it is still normal in my case. Could u pls suggest a an affordable diet plan that will give me 100 gm protein daily.

I can't supply a diet plan as I am not qualified to do so, my husband is on a high carb/high protein diet as supervised by a liver specialist dietician. He has never been told a specific weight of protein he must eat each day but he eats meat, 2 eggs per day, cheese etc. This is a small excerpt of the diet leaflet he was provided.

Try to include a good source of protein with at least 3-4 meals every day.

Examples include:

-Meat and poultry

-Fish

-Cheese

-Eggs

-Pulses such as peas, beans (including baked beans) and lentils/dhal

-Meat alternatives such as tofu, soya and Quorn.

All the best,

Katie

Thank u for ur suggestion

As per internet we need 1.2 gm protein per kg of weight. I m 70 kkg so i need 84 gm protein. Thats why I mentioned 100gm of protein. I shall try to follow ur suggestion.

My hubby was only 54 kg when he attended liver specialist dietician where he was assessed and deemed malnourished with significant muscle wastage. He was put on to a high carbohydrate and high protein eating plan (in his case having his 2 eggs per day at least, a meat and two veg type evening meal - typical British food and cheese and other stuff). Within a year his weight had improved significantly and he'd regained muscle mass which was really well received by liver hospital. He was later also prescribed a supplement drink called Ensure and on it his weight improved some more. He rose to 69kg though currently sitting about 63kg (he's 165cm tall). As I say we were never told a specific weight of protein to aim for just as that diet plan excerpt said above.

Best wishes, Katie

From ur discussion it is clear that ur husband lost weight and regained much of it later on through hchp diet. In my case still i didnt lose weight i was plusminus75 kg three years ago when the condition was caught and right now i m 72 kg. But shirts and pants that i made three years ago become lose now. My arm, thigh, breast muscles are visibly lost its solidity and appear shrunken. So i think i lost muscle mass but not weight. Do u think its a sign of malnourishmen?

My hubby actually never lost weight, he was a fit and active long distance walker and throughout his life had only ever had a 28 inch waist, he was always slight and never carried any weight and was lean. He worked in heavy engineering where he would be constantly moving heavy weights etc. His malnourishment sign was the loss of muscle mass, when the liver isn't working properly it burns your muscles for fuel so carbohydrate is very important as well as protein.

His waist has risen to a 34 -36 inch and he's the heaviest he's ever been in his life. But doctors are happy with it.

I am going to PM you a bit of information which might help you.

Katie

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

We do have some useful publications you may want to read on Cirrhosis of the liver and also hepatitis B:

britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Unfortunately, no one on the forum is medically qualified to assess or advise. We would suggest you speak with your own liver team about your stage of liver disease and any appropriate medications or supplements.

Best wishes.
