I have been conversing with a few on here for the last week or so after having a test with high ALT. Just wanted to let you know that I had my scan today and have been diagnosed with gallstones (A&E told me gastritis 3 months ago) and a Hemangioma.
The operator said there was nothing significant on my scan and that my liver didn’t look fatty. Have to go for scans every 6 months for the Hemangioma, and imagine surgery for the gallstones.
I have abstained from alcohol for over a year now and I can honestly say that my drinking days are well and truly over. I’ll never touch it again.
I’ll await the official report but looks like I didn’t do myself any permanent damage with my years of drinking.
This site and the wonderful people on it and the knowledge that damage and even Chirossis isn’t a death sentence anymore really helped ease my anxieties. I wish everyone well for their future.
Hi, good news your liver isn’t fatty. Continue to look after yourself and you should be fine. I’ve had NAFLD for 15 years now and controlled by meds. I’ve had a couple of small stones in my gallbladder for about 6 years and they haven’t grown in size. If they don’t bother you then they won’t remove. And it doesn’t matter on how many or size, the problems come is they move into your bile duct, as said mine are fine. Continue with a low fat diet etc and exercise and there’s no reason for things to progress. You don’t really want your gb removed. I also have a condition called bile acid malabsorption. The most common reason this starts is after gb removal although mine is linked to liver issues etc. So try to keep it if you can! And well done on not drinking. I don’t drink at all since my issues, although I wasn’t a big drinker anyway so it was easy for me to stop.
Thank you, unfortunately I’ve had pain every day most of the day. It’s eased off a little side I’ve cut all fat out of my diet. I can’t even eat ketchup without a massive flare up and I haven’t been able to eat curry or any spice for either. I loved my curry but I dare not eat it again...landed in in A&E last time! I’ll wait to see what this consultant wants to do about them. Glad you do t drink either... and looking after yourself! It’s worth it 😊 xx
Hi Pam,
Thank you for sharing your update.
We do have a publication on gallstones and also haemangiomas in our benign tumours and cystic disease of the liver publication that may be helpful to read. See below for links:
Thanks so much. Healthy eating is a must although I think once these things are out I need to widen my food choices. It’s easy to get bored! Take care too xx
I know what you mean Pam, I had my multiple stones removed in 2015 which should have happened in 2010! Emergency operation happened after first scan report went missing! Op was a success !'
I'm sure you'll be fine and full recovery is shortly!
