Hi there. I was a heavy drinker for 10 years but have been sober one year (female 35). When I first got sober I had slightly high liver enzymes and had an ultrasound. They said my liver was a normal size and looked smooth. Liver blood tests have all been normal since but I sometimes have a pain in my right side under my ribs. Cant help but worry it's cirrhosis. I get health anxiety but wondering whether I should push for a fibroscan?

Should I be worried?
If it puts your mind at rest, yes. I drank for 20 years and had aches and pains after quitting. I paid for a private fibroscan after 8 months, and all was fine. I reckon the aches went after that, so there could have been something psychosymatic going on.
Oh and well done for quitting alcohol 👍
I can say that I am kind of in the same boat. I’m o oh 28 and drank pretty strongly for about 10 yrs. all my tests were always fine until this year I got mild focal fatty infiltration. Drs said quit and you’ll be good but I have the same right side pain and it goes to my back and shoulder sometimes. They say it’s all these other things but everything I look up points to some form of cirrhosis. I’m hoping to get a fibroscan soon and I would definitely ask for one. It’s taken me 4 months to get a dr to consider it but I’m not stopping until my liver is fully evaluated. It’s your life not theirs so do what ever you need to to find the cause of your pains.
