Hello everyone! So my husband and I were planning to TTC so my doc recommended some initial blood tests for both of us ... My tests were clear but my husband tests showed high liver enzymes ( that just threw both of us in shock ) .... Now my husband has a normal weight he’s 5 ft 8 inches and weighs 65 kg which is within the normal BMI .... His cholesterol level is normal, triglycerides, albumin, globulin, T Protein LDL and HDL are all normal GGT is 34 ( which is also in normal range) , But what has us worried is that his ALT : 156 and AST: 78 .... We are of South Asian Origin ( Muslim’s) and have never had Alcohol ever ... Anyone with similar experience what were you diagnosed with ? Is this a case of NAFLD.....????Our gp referred us to a gastro specialist who has booked us for a Fibroscan. 😕 Could this be genetic as my MIL also has severe liver issues ?

Hi Ash
I cannot give you any real help I’m afraid. A fibroscan sounds like a good idea as it is quick, non invasive and gives an immediate result. It will check if hubby’s liver is as soft and bouncy as it should be. If the liver is fatty then it will be slightly hardened.
As for your heritage, I believe that there is a high incidence of NAFLD in South East Asians. It might be a good idea to find out exactly what your MILs problem is and mention it to the specialist.
Good luck and also for your family plans.
Isabelle xx
