I don't know if this is connected with my cirrhosis (non-alcohol related, and compensated at present) but I am getting frequent spells (4 or 5 bouts bouts a month) of stomach upsets-- (sorry for details) diarrhoea, foul smelling wind etc, no vomiting), I am treating it with activated charcoal capsules which usually seems to help a great deal. Till the next time.
Trying to see a GP seems just about impossible at present. My questions: 1) do people on the forum believe my stomach issue is likely to be connected in any way with the cirrhosis? 2) is it all right for me to take the charcoal capsules?
As always, all thoughts/comments, gratefully received.

Are you able to get in touch with your consultant to run this past them - a phonecall or email to secretary might get you an answer or an expedited next appointment.
Not sure whether the symptoms you describe are liver related but it needs checking out - I am not going to comment on suitability of charcoal capsules because I am not qualified to do so.
Why is it impossible to see a GP just now? GP's are not dealing with covid, they are still working, ok they might do phone triage or phone appointment before a face to face but they are still doing face to face appointments - i've had family members go in for all sorts of appointments in past few months.
Thanks Katie, alway appreciate your input. So far -with unrelated issues- have only been able to get phone consultations, one of which concerned a problem with my eye that I really felt I needed to "see" someone about. (It resolved after about 2 months) so I was a bit offput by that. I will think over what you have said. thanks again.
Having some changes in bowel habbit could be a result of your liver disease. It could be other things too. I experienced various changes in bowel habbit so its not unheard of.
Its definitely something you should raise with your liver team and or gp when you do get to see or speak to them. Changes in symptoms like this your liver team are particularly keen to hear about at clinic.
We cant really advise on the charcoal. Not permitted on here and i have no experience of it either. However, your gp should be able to advise on whether that is ok or whether something else would be recommended. Certainly if you start feeling sick and queezy there's medication that can prescribe that will help with that.
