This is my first post. Alittle about me.... I have been an alcoholic for 12 years what I mean by that is I drink 1 bottle of red wine per night with dinner. I am 5'11 - 183 lbs 52 years old. Im happy I found this support group with people who know a lot more then I do. I have the right upper quadrant liver dull ache which also is dull in my back the pain is a constant dull ache all the time which started 7 months ago,Which was my first symptom. I have quit wine the day after I had the pain and have not had a drop since. Hepatologist told me I have
Nash F0-F1 no fibrosis .22/ also N1 mild Nash .34 fatty liver with some inflammation. I also had a ton of different blood work done & all normal.
First call she made to me was that the fibrotest shows severe scaring which gave me a stress attack she said lets wait unit we get all the blood tests back which took 2 weeks. I was depressed for 2 weeks for some reason I am still stuck on the first phone call.
Second call was the above numbers for some reason I am hesitate to believe her
I was retested in July with no drinking and 15 pound weight loss all numbers were basically the same. No red flags.
Im not sure I would get pain with these numbers. I was of the understanding that the pain is felt when the liver was further along. When I asked doctor she said stop drinking lose 10 pounds which I did before second follow up, and we will retest in 6 months. I was hoping someone would know how to rid the pain. Im sorry I know this question has been asked a lot.
Any advise would help.
Thank you for reading have a great day!
Michael.

Hi just wondering how your doing since? I have the same pains and labs with good test only showing mild fatty liver but horrible pain and I’ve stopped drinking for 7 months and diet very hard and work out when I can and also lost 10lbs and am in no way overweight. No change in symptoms getting better but only worse.
So far so good.Im off alcohol and have not had one sip.I look at alcohol like a clown. when your at a party or hanging out with friends the alcohol looks at you and says come on lets have a good time relax he smiling and telling jokes. But after the clown gets enough alcohol in you and your home alone with the room spinning the clowns fangs come out and wreaks havoc on your body.I heard this story from a recovering alcoholic and it resinated with me as well as scared the crap out of me so I envision this story every time i am around alcohol. It works for me.I had blood test 1 month ago the same which was good news.I had an endoscopy and discovered I have mild gastritis which he thinks is what the pain in my side is.The stomach has a enteric nervous system which when irritated can cause referred pain.So The protocol was quit gluten dairy and any food that is hard for the stomach to break down as it secrets more acid to break down.So results from doing this are better bowel movements(solid)clear head, more energy,And less pain in my side but this could be psychosomatic.Time will tell. Not sure if any doctor I went to knows what is going on seems to be educated guesses. But I follow them and listen to my body and adjust.Hope your well. keep fighting cause no one is going to do it for you.Anything else I can help with let me know. Have a great day.
Thank you. Can I ask how they diagnosed you with NASH? I’ve had horrible pain and they decided radioiodine for my thyroid was a good move and now my levels are everywhere including cholesterol which I’ve never had problems with in the passed either. They won’t say anything like Nash or scarring to me just fatty liver but now my enzymes just keep going up and all they say is fatty liver and shove me out the door. I feel so helpless at times as I’ve spent almost all my funds trying to fix me and I feel we just broke me even more and no one cares to help. It’s fo frustrating and exhausting.
Sorry to hear that.I had a scan as well as a lot of blood tests. What I am doing is keeping a journal of what I eat and do everyday and at the end of each day i rate how i am feeling.I can look back on what I did those days and either eliminate a food or stick with a food.Mainly because the days fly by and I can't remember from day to day what the hell i did.Doctors can only advise you but I feel like you do they are mostly guessing.I also used a castor oil pack with a heating pad that helped the pain in the beginning.I would try and talk with your doctor about getting off any prescription drugs that may cause other issues might not be an option.People say they care which they do to a certain point but its up to you to stay strong and keep fighting.Keep going.
