I am three months out of having my liver transplant on .23rd Feb. I am not feeling any pain from the operation except in my back a d left hand side but I have been assured that this is quite common. My main problem at the moment is tireness. I can not walk much further than about 2000 steps without becoming very tired and on return from a walk I generally have to have a lie down. Is this a common post transplant problem ?

Hi
I am 2 years post transplant, I still ache and I am not back to my full old self.
If you were like me and spent a long time sick and unable to do much it takes time to get back your strength.
Some of the drugs you are on will effect your fitness, if you are still on steroids etc, this can make you tired
It all about building things up slowly, I felt better as the amount of drugs I took reduced.
Talk to your consultant on your next visit make sure you bloods are good, and give you self sometime you have been through a hell of an operation
Best of luck
David
Congratulations on your transplant, I'm 3 years post, can't walk that far have to rest after doing anything for about 10 minutes, still have pain all round my abdomen. Take it easy, rest when you have to.

everybody is different. i was back at work as tour guide 3 months after transplant but for first 2 months concentrated on building strength. first day out of hospital100 yards return walk and each day after added further 50 metres. yes from outset i was tired after each walk and had quiet sit down but after about 6 weeks things started to greatly improve. stick at it and i wish you all the best.
Hi, congratulations on your transplant, I feel for you not getting the reassuring weekly/2 weekly visits!!
I spoke to my consultants in the past about tiredness post tp, and yes it’s common, bear with it, Just slow and steady!! It took me 8 months to feel really good, but now a year on, I’m back to running!!
You’ll get there.
Andy.
It’s still early days. It takes longer to build up your strength than it does to lose it through Ill health depletion.
My husband was your age when he had his transplant last Nov. He had been exceptionally ill preop. Although the difference was amazing immediately post transplant. The fatigue at times was overwhelming. He spent the first six months sleeping a lot, with bursts of activity. It didnt help that he didn’t have the smoothest of post op recovery.
Unfortunately due to shielding from Covid his physical rehab has taken a backseat. But he has put on weigh & some muscle and is physically and mentally so much better. Normal service is resuming.
The euphoria of surviving the surgery is often then followed by a long recovery so don’t give up you will get there.
