Productive cough

Hi, hope everyone is well. This may seem a bit random but has anyone suffered from coughing up thick sticky mucus all the time? Mine started bang on 3 years ago at the start of my liver problems. It got really really bad after a boozing holiday, I had it coming out of my nose and coughing it up for weeks. I sounded like darth vader when I took a deep breathe and it eventually led to crackling in my lungs. When I saw the doctor they referred me to see the respritory nurse and I was diagnosed with asthma even though I'd never had any breathing problems at all. Inhalers worked and it went away using them every day. Come Jan this year on my poorer judgement I had a few drinks for my cousins 50th. I hadn't drank for almost a year at this point. I had around 6 drinks and the next day the cough and phlegm were back. Since then it's been there every day, it's OK when I wake up, peaks around noon and then is gone by night then the same the next day. I spoke with my GP and unable to see me they doubled my inhaler dose, it's made no difference. I honestly believe this is somehow liver related and that might sound ridiculous but it started at exactly the same time as my liver problems . I've found some others suffering from the same thing, I'm finding it quite frightening although I've no issues with breathing but I just can't get to the bottom of it. My GP has said now that I may not even have asthma but didn't say what else it could be, it's clear I need to see someone in respritory. I'm a non smoker but I did socially smoke for 10 years but quit 10 years ago (I was never addicted so I just smoked on and off). Has anyone in here suffered from the same thing? Thanks guys x

Have u been given a reason for yre liver problems

The reason I am asking is if you have alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency you woud also be susceptable to Bronchiectasis which is a related lung condition. If you

Have not been tested for A1AD maybe u should ask for the test. Initially because my husband was not a drinker they tested him straight away.

Hi Liberty,

Can you request a referral to a respiratory specialist? They would be best placed to assess your lung function.

Best wishes.
