Difficulty locating vein/fluid retention and ascites

I was wondering if other people had experienced medical staff having difficulty in locating a vein to draw bloods after early development of fluid retention/ascites.

Many thanks.

If you drink a large glass of water, 15-20 minutes before a blood test, it will definitely help.

Many thanks for that. Can I ask if this is another indicator of having moved on to fluid retention?

Nope, the main indicator of fluid retention is weight gain, 1 litre of fluid = 1 kg of weight.

Thanks again, I've had a bit of weight gain but my stomach slumps to the side when I'm on my side and it's quite swollen, feels heavy, could this be mild gradual ascites? Also swollen flanks.

Your doctors are the best people who will be able to determine what issues you are having, I would make an appointment for a physical examination.

No one can ever get blood from me full stop! Last time I had to stand with my wrists under a hot tap. I have also been sat in an MRI scanner with a radiographer on one hand and two nurses on the other!
