Good afternoon,
I am afraid no one on this forum is going to be able to interpret the test for you.
What I would say though is that an AFP test in itself does not necessarily prove or disprove anything. You do not mention why you are having the test done and whether you have an underlying liver condition that results in you needing this test done regularly. The result needs to be taken in the context of other investigations and your medical condition. Your own medical team would be best placed to advise you on the significence of the result.
regards

I don't know why my doctor test this twice a year. But its increased level making me upset and worried. Afp level 18 is it serious level? I have diagnosed decompensate cirrhosis in September 2019.I am Stable and doing well.but my Afp report upset me.
Hello,
Anyone with a diagnosis of cirrhosis should routinely be having AFP checked 6 monthly, generally an ultrasound scan is done as well 6 monthly. The reason that the AFP is done is because a damaged liver is more likely to develop abnormal areas. For some types of abnormalities the AFP test can be a sensitive marker but a negative result does not necessarily mean that there are no abnormal areas. The presence of underlying liver conditions, for example hepatitis, can cause the AFP to rise. It is important that you discuss your result with your medical team, they will look at the trend of your results and may want you to have a scan to check your liver. I know it is tempting to ask about your results on this forum but the only people who can really give you a proper explanation are your own medical team.
I do hope you can get an appointment with your team soon so that you can discuss your concerns.
regards
