Robin's Winter Song

Just a wee Christmas Tale,

I was outside topping up the food on the bird table, and my friendly Robin, sat on the to of the fence watching me, bobbing and chirping as usual. He puts up with my meagre attempts to mimic his beautiful song. This time, he didn't seem too interested in the scrunched up fat ball and mealworms, he seemed more interested in my company, so I went in to get my coat, and sat down outside near the bird table. I was trying to chat with Robin, and he was replying with his beautiful Winter Song. We chatted like this for about half an hour....maybe he was trying to teach me how to sing properly😊. I put a few mealworms in my hand, and held it out to him. Without hesitation, he flew down onto my hand, and ate a mealworm or two, and then was singing so gently, almost under his breath, I must say, it brought a tear to my eye. After a while, he flew off, and I went inside.

I thought about this beautiful experience I had with Robin, and suddenly realised that while I was out there, I was not aware of my constant capsule pain, and my feelings of wellbeing were off the scale.

Sorry, the last bit is the only on topic part, I just thought I would share it with you all.

THANK YOU so much for sharing this beautiful event! I'm sure your wee Robin will be eating lots more of those yummy mealworms from your palm very soon as its proof he trusts and adores you!

I'm so pleased that the whole experience relieved you of your capsule pain which again was another beautiful experience on it's own!

Enjoy every moment David as the Robin loves you!

Thanks Fili,

just after I wrote the post, I saw 2 Robins together, which is unusual at this time of year. It's too early for them to be pairing up for breeding, so maybe Robin has told his friends😊😊😊, although I know they are solitary. It was just a magical moment.

Away with the Bird's + you discovered a new tweetment. Nice one, Davirobin.

This is beautiful

I’ve always thought that robins are a calming bird and bring some sense of well being,

The Robin Redbreast, has been subject of legend since the year Dot. quite literally. With the coming of Jesus Christ comes the legend of the Robins Red Breast. It is said that in Our Lords hour of need it was the Robin that tried to remove the thorns, it was the Robin that stood guard and only allowed the light to come near. It was this act of heroic bravery that caused a splash of blood to stain his red breast, this motive is still seen today and is worn with a pride by the Cock Robin. Also the Robin can be found in every church yard but will only be seen once it calls to you and once seen, it's unique character will become familiar to you as this sacred bird will visit you often whilst providing reassurance for a new beginning. πŸ˜‡

Ofecky,

Thanks for reminding me of the part the robin played in the Lords crucifixion.

Your right, Robin's are everywhere if you listen for their song.

I've now got 2, and they seem to be happy with each others company, so they might be pairing up🀞🀞🀞

I know the nursery rhyme about who killed cock robin is not necessarily very nice but every time I hear about a robin it reminds me of that (πŸ™) and in particular the lovely song called β€œSparrow” by Simon and Garfunkel which is an allegory of the rhyme. Recommended listening - do google it πŸ˜€πŸ˜€. Of course it helps if you are an S and G fan like what I is....

β€’ in reply toThreeSmiles

Beautiful S+G song, just heard it. Thank you for the reminder. Bleak and hopeful at the same time the way they play it. Perfect song. We're all just holding on and it's a good reminder that we all need the kindness of each other. Thank you for your kindness Miles.

Thanks Miles, I hadn't heard that song for many years....beautifulπŸ‘πŸ‘

It reminded me of a Don McLean song "The Grave"....another soulful song about the waste of life.

Hi

That was so beautiful. Robin's are beautiful birds and very calming too.

What a lovely thing to happen to you, animals are magical and also healing creatures too.....sounds like that little bird took a real shine to you !!!

davianne profile image
davianneβ€’ in reply toKatmando

Your so right......I often prefer them to people.

Many years ago, I raised a weak fledgling blue tit who couldn't fly. I used to feed him mealworms, and was flying after about 2 weeks. He still came to my hand for mealworms, for months afterwards. It always impressed visitors that I could "charm the birds from the trees", as one friend said.

What a lovely story, I know exactly what you mean about animals too !!! We had a blackbird once where we used to live and he was so friendly, he'd hop about beside me whenever I was in the garden.....he had half a beak - we named him 'Mr half beak' !

davianneβ€’ in reply toKatmando

I hope he could eat properly, and he survived.πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Katmando profile image
Katmandoβ€’ in reply todavianne

Yes, he was a little miracle bird....he came a few years into the garden, it was always a joy to see him back !

davianne profile image
davianneβ€’ in reply toKatmando

Awww, that's great news, I can settle now😊😊😊'

I find animals in trouble very hard to take, especially with the poor wildlife in Aus, with all the wildfires. The picture of a Koala begging water was very upsetting.

Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird of the air may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say.

Awww what a lovely thing to happen!

I just love birds and also feed the beautiful wood pigeons that come to my garden every day!

There is also a little Robin who comes around me while I'm clearing up the winter leaves..he doesn't seem to be afraid at all! They are amazing little birds that seem to have the almost spiritual ability to connect with people!

That would have been the most amazing experience to have him take food out of your hand..definitely would have made my day ..and as you said your pain seemed to almost disappear at that time..the lucky little Robin worked his magic how wonderful!

davianne profile image
davianneβ€’ in reply toballie52

Hi ballie, I have always thought the same about Robin's. I spend quite a lot of time in the garden, so the birds are used to me being around, but the Robin more so.

I get quite a few Wood Pigeons. but have to feed them on the grass.....their not patio trained 🀣🀣🀣. Ihad one a few years ago who had a limp.....I called him Walter, and he was very tame, but only with me.
