Process of being diagnosed

Hi guys this is my first ever post and as you maybe able to tell I'm new to this. I'm in the process of being diagnosed with NASH non alcoholic and needleas to say im very scared and have all the silly questions go through my head is this going to kill me I have a 2 year old daughter so scares me the thought of no longer being around for my daughter, am I going to need a transplant, is it going to develop to cerosis and so on. I've been told losing weight can help aid and reverse NASH is this true? I've always struggled with maintaining a healthy weight would they consider a stomach NHS bypass or is this too risky?

Hi Worried, welcome to our merry band, sorry to hear of your worries. If you haven't already found it then the British Liver Trust has an excellent page about NAFLD and NASH which might give you some guidance on the condition and perhaps answer some of your questions.

All the best, hope your doctors get you answers soon but yes if you are carrying excess weight then it would certainly benefit your liver to try and reduce.

I read that weightloss can work miracles with NASH.

Hi Worried of 1988,

Everyone is a newbie at sometime, lol. 😊. Just to put your mind at ease, there ain't no daft questions, always feel free to ask.

Ok so you have NASH and it sounds from your message that it's relatively early on. First thing to do is read up on the British Liver Trust page about it. They'll be lots of good info for you on there. I'm on my phone so cant post the link but I'm sure someone will.

From my understanding you can do lots about your disease to either stop or very much slow down any progression. Yes, if you are over weight then the biggest help is losing the flab.

I cant really comment on NASH itself as it wasn't my disease. However, I'm trying to lose weight myself so know how hard it can be to resist all those temptations.

You mention gastric surgery as a possibility. I doubt you'll need that. I reckon you are more than capable of doing it yourself without resorting to such drastic measures. Gastric surgery is not necessarily the panacea to your problem there. It does though take will power and lots of it! But, it is very achievable.

For most people there needs to be some motivation to help them along the way. Strange though it may seem, becoming more healthy is rarely sufficient, lol. You need something a bit more than that. Well I did at least 😁. You need to find something that will motivate you.

Good luck and feel free to keep us posted on your progress.

Thank you everyone for your comments I’m awaiting a fibroscan to make sure their no scarring. I have a good amount of weight to loose so will loose that and hopefully turn my health around. Thank you and good luck to you fellow sufferers.
