Gilberts syndrome

I have been diagnosed with Gilbert's syndrome and since my diagnosis I realised it exsplined a lot about things that affects my everyday life such as often feeling constantly tired, confused or foggy memory, at times trouble concentrating, uncomfortable ache on my right side just under my ribs, symptoms simular to IBS. A lot of websites say that more often than not people have Gilberts syndrome without any symptom and live a normal life, I unfortunately do suffer from mental health issues one of which is anxiety and from what I have learnd dont help the Gilberts syndrome, with the tiredness side of the condition it can make every day life difficult as it dose knock you for a six and if I get unwell it affects me much worse than othere people more often than not having to go to bed as I feel not only unwell but extremely tired and lethargic. I am trying to find out all I can about the condition and would like to hear from othere people suffering from Gilbert's syndrome. Anyway this is my first post and I hope I have done ok.

Hi Colin,

Welcome to our forum.

The Trust does have a publication on Gilberst you may find useful:

britishlivertrust.org.uk/wp...

We would suggest if you are having symptoms that are concerning you, to speak with your GP and discuss a referral to a liver specialist who would be best placed to assess you.

Here is a link to our list of UK liver units that may be of use when discussing a referral:

Warm wishes

Hi Colin, welcome to the forum and thank you for being so brave and open with your first post. Sorry to hear about your health issues. If it helps my child was diagnosed in the Summer with Gilbert’s when he got ill with appendicitis. Having no idea what it was and using Dr Google i was terrified! I asked them Drs about it and they said it was absolutely nothing to worry about and to just forget about it.

Try not to look it up on the Internet, we all do it and really shouldn’t!

I am sure someone will come along who has it and be able to offer more support.

I hope this helps, Owlie

Hi Colin,

I’ve just read your post regarding your symptoms from Gilbert’s Syndrome. I also have had Gilbert’s for 28 years it hasn’t really caused me Many symptoms over this time. Although the last 4 years I have been suffering with all of your symptoms and very high liver blood results. I am under a specialist monitoring my undiagnosed liver problem whom they think it’s not related to Gilbert’s syndrome.

The Gilbert’s syndrome clouds the view of high liver blood results making my condition unique, but they say there are no symptoms attached.

Hope this helps.

Merry Christmas

Wendy
