Stupid but simple question....does balsamic vinegar do any further damage to the liver? I’m running out of things to add flavour to salads and I really enjoy tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinegar. Increasingly tho’ I am experiencing severe, stabbing pains high up on right side and they are sore enough to stop me in my tracks. Not having alcohol, salt extremely limited, only thing I can think of that would damage it further that I am eating is balsamic vinegar. I’ve scoured google, some say eat it others says it’s consuming alcohol.
If it’s taboo does that go for beetroot and jalapeños in jars of vinegar too? Or am I I losing the plot?

Can I ask you a question, are you peeing more whilst having these pains on your right side?
All I know is the more acid ingediants I intake does cause my kidney's and liver to have a we wobble! However I'm fine with small intakes of Balamic dressings and lemons etc, but do have to be on my guard especially when making chilli garlic onion and tomatoe balsamic dressing!

Has your liver specialist referred you to a hospital registered dietitian? They would be best placed to safely advise you about what foods are best to eat for your specific diagnosis.

Add lots of veggies to your diet if you want to keep your liver healthy. Broccoli can be part of this strategy. Some studies suggest this crunchy food can help protect you from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. If steamed broccoli sounds a little too blah, shred it into a slaw and toss it with sliced almonds, dried cranberries, and a tangy vinaigrette. It's also delicious roasted with garlic and a splash of balsamic vinegar.
Vinegar. There should be no adverse effect of consuming balsamic vinegar by an individual with chronic liver disease.
Or Kidneys.

Strangely broccoli is one of the few things that has made me really ill since my cirrhosis diagnosis. I read up on all the benefits of eating broccoli (high protein veg, vitamin K etc etc) and set off to make a huge pot of broccoli and cheese soup. Two bowls later, I was curled up on the bed in agony !! After googling stomach pain and broccoli, it seems it is quite common for some people to have problems digesting it. I had previously eaten broccoli for years with no ill effects but am convinced that it was the cause of major stomach cramps. I would really like to try again with broccoli but am just too chicken 🐣🐣. Maybe need to start with a tiny piece and build up to a bowl of soup ........Anyone else been bitten by broccoli ? 🥦🥦🥦
Stomach cramps are often caused by over eating, but consuming certain foods can have the same effect. Foods that are difficult to digest, such as broccoli, are often the culprit, because they increase the amount of gas in your intestines. In rare cases, the cramping is because of a food allergy, but you usually experience that pain along with other allergy-related symptoms, such as itching. Not suggesting anyone is over eating as we all should eat little & often. It does also suggest anyone with digestive problem eat less roughage. Can't win. It's a gas. 😜
Good morning well this is a very interesting read. I am 3 years post diagnosis of Cirrhosis and up until now I am doing amazingly and no longer drink and live a very healthy lifestyle and exercise and eat very well. I was advised that a low salt diet and eating plenty of vegetables is key but was not aware that having acidic sauces was an issue which I am quite shocked to read as I have balsamic vinegar more or less everyday.
I am actually seeing my liver specialist today so I shall be adding this to my little list of questions.
There is something new I learn all the time about this disease and thank you for making me aware of this 😀
