My husband has been feeling very rough and been in bed all day, he is in bed now. He is so very tired. Does anyone else have this happen too?

Does anyone else get like this?
That's my hubbies major symptom, he has worse days than others but is always chronically fatigued. If your hubby is perhaps fighting any other bug too it will be harder for his liver to fight and will add to fatigue.
I know you have bother getting hubby to doctors but if it goes on it might be worth just getting bloods done. In my hubbies case though nothing in bloods explains why he has this fatigue it's just one of the things that goes along with chronic liver disease.

Hi Katie, as it happens he has an appointment tomorrow at gp it is so odd though as last night he seemed a bit brighter then today he is wiped out. Also being asleep so much means he hasn’t really had anything much to eat or drink.
I've seen my hubby get up for breakfast then immediately need to go back to bed, I have in the past had to waken him for snacks, for lunch and for evening meal. If I am out I have had to phone him to waken him and remind him to eat. Fuelling is ultra important, the poorly functioning liver can't store and release energy as a healthy one and needs to be topped up regularly with carbs and protein - without these it's a vicious circle because without the fuel the fatigue and muscle wastage will only get worse.
Hopefully GP will run some blood tests though as I said above, even when my hubby has been at his lowest ebb with zero energy he has had nothing show up in bloods.
HE though can also cause sleep issues and sleeping all the time can be a sign of that so it's a good job your hubby has an appointment tomorrow.
All the best, Katie
Hi
Sorry to but in.
I've got to eat low carbs cos of blood sugar, won't this affect my liver? I have Nash. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
Different circumstances, the high carb, high protein is for someone with advanced cirrhosis where muscle wastage and fuelling are becoming an issue. A dietician's advice would have to be sought in your own circumstances but this type of fuelling isn't yet an issue for yourself.
Thank you so much . Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
It's just my consultant said don't lose it too quickly otherwise your liver will shrivel up and you will get cirrhosis!! Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
I have a question I have alcohol cirrhosis for 5yrs now no red meat and not too much protein skinless a month ago was diagnosed with diabetes 2, doc put me on high protein and vegetable diet. I am very confuse. What's your take Ayrshirek, I value your opinion thanks peppy05
I was at work so had no idea he had been in bed all day he was downstairs when I got home and I tried to get him to have something but he just couldn’t he still hasn’t stirred. I just hope this GP understands it isn’t the one who got her butt into gear and started reacting. Is there anything that can help him or anything the dr can do that will help or is this part of the disease?
Hi. I'm new to this and desperately trying to find some help for my Mum who was diagnosed with cirrhosis a month ago and is really struggling with the fatigue. It has been useful reading your post. Thanks x
Hi
I just wanted to wish your hubby all the best for his GP appointment today! Are you going with him for support?
You too take care of yourself too as stress can also drag you down without seeing the signs until they hit!
Please keep us updated
Love Trish x
Hi Dr K. You mentioned any other bug. Whilst I'm compensated I've had the misfortune to contract a chest infection here in the sun. I'm reluctant to take anything over the counter in Spain. Flu jabs back home are being rolled out in my absence, so get that when I get back. Anyone experienced this infection home or otherwise. Thanks.😷
You are going to get bugs, colds, infections just like the next person - however, one of the liver's 500 jobs is to help fight infection. The liver helps to fight infection by removing bacteria from the blood. So when you get a bug of any kind it can take you longer to battle the infection and with your liver trying it's hardest to do every job it still can it can contribute to a greater level of fatigue. I am no doctor just someone who's witnessed this illness at close hand for over 7 years now and picked up stuff along the way.
When are you back home? I ask because a full on chest infection is going to probably need anti-biotics to knock it out. Infections like this when you have an underlying liver condition can actually have a knock on effect on liver inflammation and cause problems. Over the counter meds probably won't cut it.
Katie
A+ I've bestowed you an Honorary Doctorate for services to the cause.
Yes, Bs1514,,
Often have days like that. Can’t even explain to others or self why it happens but when it does, it’s like you just switch off from the rest of the world. Lose track of time/day and what you were meant to be doing
Hope
Hi - sounds very familiar to me - my hubby who has 🤷♀️ A bit of everything (liver transplant 2014 for hep c cirrhosis - diabetic on 3 insulin’s and 2 tablets - hep c cleared Jan 16 - now NASH ??? Massive incisional hernia +10cm with bowel loops through - 2 protruding discs L4/5 - disc out in neck ??? Or carpal tunnel in both arms - peripheral neuropathy- think that’s it 🤦♀️) he doesn’t drink alcohol and hasn’t for 30 years - transplanted liver was 65 and he has one day of not sleeping 🤷♀️ And then 4 of being asleep all day and awake all night or often 48 hours of sleep !!!! Wakes up enough to have a bowl of cereal and some tablets - I have given up with testing his blood sugar as he gets angry and tells me where to go 😥 and it’s always high anyway - he gives himself random doses of insulin and then when I ask he doesn’t remember (it doesn’t want to tell me) - GP isn’t that bothered 😕 and liver drs have sort of given up on him 🤷♀️ Appointment was Tuesday and he went and when he found out he wasn’t seeing ‘his’ dr (the one that organised transplant/hep c meds etc) he had a strop and left !!!! Apparently his liver bloods are all ok ??? Just his folate low so now added folic acid to his pot of pills !!! And from what I can make out his blood is thick and producing too many red blood cells but not anything that the GP or hospital are worried about - I think it’s quite normal for people with liver probs to feel fatigued 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ Before transplant he slept more or less every day for 8 months and when he was awake it was only for a HE rant 🙄 then he went to sleep again - think it might just be a liver thing but like Katie said - always worth getting checked out if you are worried 🥰 I have become hardened to it all second time around and even though my ‘profession’ was a RN - I am still vigilant but I don’t react as much (as in sending him to hospital etc) there is nothing they can do there so he might as well be at home - for example - yesterday he got up and took son to school and came home had a banana and went to sleep until 3.30pm picked son up and then went back to sleep until 6.30 and then went to play poker with friends until 10pm came home and was awake all night 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ So will be asleep again today and so on - I wouldn’t be overly alarmed but keep an eye on it 😘😘😘 it’s not nice knowing that they are asleep all day whilst you are worrying but it seems to be a ‘thing’ with poorly livers ???? Perhaps it’s the body trying to heal 🤷♀️ Take care and try not to worry too much 😘🥰😘
Oh yes, I get this often. I feel tired a lot of the time, but some days I just feel too rough to do anything. I don't go to bed ,but just sit on the sofa listening to my favourite music, which does help me a bit. Unfortunately, I think it's just part of cirrhosis.
David
I know it’s a small thing but real coffee can help with energy, I really notice it if I don’t have it.
Oh right we got told have decaff . I will switch for him then you have try everything x
Hi. In my experience it could be kidneys. Is your hubby on spironolactone (diaretic)? It took them ages to get the dosage right. Could also be a lack of potassium which can be dangerous. Next time go to a&e they might take him in for tests...
