Despite the relatively good report I had on Friday, my mood has crashed again today. been really happy that the ‘pinpricks’ that I was feeling all over my body have now disappeared, but the pain in my upper right hand quarter is extremely uncomfortable now, and is getting worse with just about everything I eat - although it does seem to be based around my eating and seems to settle down almost completely outside those times.

I feel it’s appropriate to reveal the main backdrop to my fears, with this being the terrible fate of my father 25 years ago who suffered a horrible and ugly death with liver cancer that was secondary to pancreatic cancer.

I realise that no fears about the pancreas can be addressed here in this forum, and I can’t see much point in trying to talk about it anyway because no-one ever survives it, and so just when I thought the tests might be going well on my liver, this new monster crashes it in to steal away what hope I had, and had turned my waking life into a terrifying nightmare.

I know I’m a healthy anxiety hypochondriac, and if I could avoid it, I honestly would, but my spirit is feeling crushed now by all of this...

Hi, Graham - Health Anxiety is a very real illness in and of itself. You should not feel ashamed of it - as a friend once told me, “no one chooses to be ill.” Your father’s diagnosis would naturally make you more concerned. If all your tests turn out to show no physical problem, you might want to try tackling the anxiety directly. It can be lonely and scary. I hope you find some relief.

Sending best wishes ...

Keep your chin up. No pain. No gain. You need upbeat food. Beets really make u feel better. Eat some ice cream with bananas and nuts. Watch a funny show. Keep smiling

Hi, hope the pain subsides soon. I presume when you said relatively good report, you have been to the doctors to rule out issues with liver, gallbladder and pancreas?

Hi Graham,

I understand your anxiety, but if your test results are OK, then you should, as AmericanDemocrat says, seek help for the anxiety you are feeling just now.

I get pinpricks all the time, mostly on arms and legs, but I am not too concerned by them, I just say it's my nerves letting e know they are there. I do have peripheral neuropathy in my feet, The upper chest pain I get is probably the capsule complaining it's being stretched by my enlarged liver and spleen, especially after eating. They are just symptoms of cirrhosis.

Please try and get your anxiety under control, and then you may feel a bit more positive.

Take Care,

David

My mother has anxiety and has been prescribed tablets which do seem to work. She’s of the generation where anything to do with mental health is swept under the carpet, but I can see for myself it’s a very real condition. A problem which I wouldn’t even consider a problem is magnified with her, and any minor ache or pain will consume her despite the fact she’s physically very healthy for her age.

Graham, if you haven’t asked your GP about this, I would do so. From what you’ve written, you’re physically fine, but it can’t be healthy to worry constantly.

Hello CocoChannel - and all

Thank you for your replies and for your advice.

I have previously had CBT for my health anxiety, but was placed on a provisional discharge status for 3 months with a view to a final discharge unless I had any new problems in that time.

I’ve done fairly well during this time but then had this recent ‘collapse’, so I will now be contacting my therapist to request a formal reopening of the treatment procedure.

Thanks again to all...

Graham

I tried CBT in 2017 re issues on the concept of minding your head. However after the second consultation I was given a Dear John sort the alcohol first. I thought it was part in partial of my condition.

If they had stuck with me I'd probably not have ended up in this position athough I shouldn't blame them.

Second attempt was prior to my diagnosis this year. Although she was a bit of a battle axe I got one positive from it. Alcohol is suicide. But I didn't go back to see her.

Well I've sorted that poison, only to late. The damage is done.

Hi Coco,

I totally agree with you.

Fortunately, mental health is no longer the taboo subject it used to be. I suffered with anxiety and depression for about 1 year up to my cirrhosis diagnosis, and was successfully treated by a psychologist, so when I got my diagnosis, I was able to cope with the stress and anxiety of what my future might hold for me.

I think Graham would also benefit from treatment, and help with his perceived problems due to anxiety.

Graham,

You have been given good advice, and I hope you take it for the sake of your wellbeing.

David
