For years i've threatened to get a tattoo and never have and now that i finally have i find myself wondering about the risks of doing so with cirrohsis.
I meant to ask the consultant yesterday and forgot, so i thought i'd reach out to you good people.

I wouldn't dream of having a tattoo but having known people who have hepatitis related liver disease from having a tattoo, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
With cirrhosis you will be especially vulnerable to infection so its really not worth the risk. That's my opinion but I know others will see it differently.
I' ve always wanted a we mini spider creeping over my shoulder butI know it will never happen for the same reason you mentioned in your message above!

Hi Xenom0rph
If you have cirrhosis, it is very important to discuss this query with your liver specialist as you can be more vulnerable to infections.
If your consultant says you are medically fit to have a tattoo, then we would suggest it is very important to make sure that only sterile needles are used if you are about to have a tattoo, and if possible see that the needles come from a new sterile pack.
My husband has had probably 50 tattoos since getting poorly - I can only think that if your platelets are low and clotting etc then it will bleed - it will also take longer to heal so you need to keep up with all the advice they give - my hubby has had his gastro/hep consultant’ initials on the back of his neck 🥰🥰🥰 S A S because he is just fab and he also has a clock with transplant date on - he has me as an angel 😇- all very odd considering it was a tattoo that gave him hep C that caused his cirrhosis 🤣🤷♀️🥰
