Hi, sorry for bothering you all again, just a quick question. My hubby informed me this morning that when he went to the toilet in the night, he started losing blood when he wiped although he didnt actually have a number 2. Should we be worried or is this normal with cirrhosis?

Hi Alison. Its probably nothing serioushowever I would ring 111 now, explain hubbies illness and what happened in the night and will either send someone out to you or get you a pretty immediate appointment to either checkout and deal with the problem or just put your mind at rest. Hope all is well xx
Hi Alison, was it fresh red blood or old dark blood. If it's fresh, and only a small amount, it might be hemorrhoids, of just a sore bottom. If it is a lot, then I think action needs to be taken. I have never had this with my cirrhosis, even with the chronic diarrhea I used to have.
Hi Alison. I didn't have this kind of bleeding with cirrhosis and HCC for several years. so you are best to speak to someone like a doctor or 111 if only for your peace of mind. It could be something and nothing but best to get it checked out. Hopefully all will be well. Regards Alf.
Thanks alf, he never used to tell me anything but I told him that I need to know if any different symptoms occur. I give 111 a ring once my little one has gone to school thanks again x
Hello this is my first post. Hubby has cirrhosis too. Diagnosed 3 Months ago when vomited blood. They were banded twice. Has portal hypertension. Started bleeding when would go to toilet. Had hemorrhoids banded but continued to bleed. Had anorectal varices which they didn't pick up on first colonoscopy. These were stitched. Also has had nose bleed. He was prettty low on blood so glad they found them. Have a feeling there is more bleeding to come 😕.
Just wanted to let u know in case its something more then a tear.
For weeks before my hubby vomited blood from burst varices he was passing blood from his back passage (he never told me this at the time, thinking it was merely a rectal tear). I know it's a bit yucky but when your hubby passes a stool what colour is that? Black and tarry (sticky) stools are a sign of a gastrointestinal bleed and does need medical intervention a.s.a.p.
This happened to me while on transplant list & panicked I rang my coordinator and was advised to go via A&E as I had passed a lot of blood (I thought)as it happens it wasn’t a lot and was red not dark which is a positive turned out it was what’s called a pollop and was removed the next day, they did do a biopsy just to make sure it wasn’t cancerous thou
Hi, thanks for your reply. yes the blood he passed was red. I phoned 111 helpline and they said similar to you about pollops. I was advised to monitor it and if it persists or changes colour then he will need to have it checked out at A+E.
Hi there.id just like to add it’s the most terrifying of the bleeds.when it comes out your mouth you know that if it’s a varicie bleed you know it can be banded but you’re scared to death when it comes out as a stool thinking it’s to far for it to be reached.but they are not and just as easily banded in my case anyway.my bleed was dark black and sticky and immediately knew something was wrong and went instantly to A and E.were I was left for sixteen hours nil by mouth on a Friday afternoon waiting for an endoscopy but that’s another story.if in doubt go to hospital is all I was told.hope he’s ok.paul
