Hello, have had major hair loss and thinning over past 3 years. All bloods ie. liver function, thyroid always come back fine. Have had consistent pain right side, under ribs and digestive issues for last 3 years. All ultras, CT scans, fibro test come back normal. Have clay coloured stools. But always dismissed by doctors. Went to see Naturopath and he said that it was all related to my liver and it was only functioning at 30 percent capacity. He also informed me that blood results will only show liver issues if your liver function is down to 20 percent. Has anyone had hair loss issues or knows the validity of this?

Hair Loss and Thinning
Hi jen1616,
Sorry, husband is the one with liver disease.
If your doctors are saying that your tests are normal for liver disease it may be something else.
The best I can recommend is keep trying to find out what is going on. I do know that stress can have an effect on hair.
Best,
Mary
I'm a male & I experienced some hair loss when my liver became inflamed to the point where I felt awful. It turned out that I didn't have cirrhosis or even fibrosis according to the tests I had but for several months hair from the front of my head fell out. I noticed this every time I showered & found an unusual amount of hair caught in the shower waste!
My hair stopped falling out after I followed a healthy lifestyle & stopped taking anything that might stress the liver like alcohol & drugs. The hair loss stopping coincided with my libido returning to some degree despite my age (67) so I believe the reason for the hair loss was a decrease in hormones that the liver regulates.
If your hair is falling out but your liver isn't damaged a doctor may agree to give you hormone replacement therapy which could result in your hair growing back. A doctor would not agree to this however if your liver was damaged as it would place further stress on the liver. It might be worth investigating.
