Travelling by Road to Mountains

Hello,

So my father had his recent liver function tests done and all was in normal range except his Albumin dropped to 2.7 from 3.1 (which was improved from 2.8, 2 month back) and his Blood Placates dropped to 10,400 from 15,8000. Which I think because of Pneumonia 23 and Hepatitis B vaccines he was given, just day or two before this reports, it may have fluctuated.

He had his first drain of Ascites in February (That's when we found out he has this Disease). It didn't came back. Last month we did Sonography and it was less than 10CC. However, last week we did his Sonography and there is 360CC fluid in abdomen which doctor said will be cleared with meds. Overall, we been through numerous opinions of Doctors and none are giving clear answer about the cause and prognosis. Due to summer in India, he has been sipping up to 2 ltr water instead of 1.5 he is advised to do so and he doesn't rest and follow proper routine of meals as he is stubborn :| He has worked all his life and he doesn't like to sit idle.

He does have edema at Ankle and legs because of his Blood Pressure Meds. Now, I am thinking about taking him on a trip to Mountains in Northern Area which are around 3000m above sea level by Road (No Plane). So he can get fresh air and keeping him away will keep him free from work and no stress. He can enjoy that too.

I heard High Altitude is not good in Planes. He had his varices banded in March and is due for regular check up in July end.

So, is it ok for him to Travel by Road to high mountains?

Thanks.

Hi Zvhipp. I can't comment on any of the medical terms because I'm not qualified to do so. I think the idea of getting your father away to rest for a while is basically good, but I just wonder if the high mountain place that you are talking of would have any hospital within reasonable distance if your father needed any kind of treatment or if there were to be an emergency? When I was ill pre transplant I tended to go no further than an hour or two of the hospital that I was receiving treatment at. Wishing you all the best. Alf
