Have you had your blood iron levels checked recently, specifically, your ferritin level? Chewing ice can be a symptom of iron deficiency. What you likely have is “pica” - a craving for items of non-nutritional value, such as ice, paper, etc. If your ferritin is indeed very low, a Ferritin Infusion (iron) is enormously helpful. Good luck.
At least its healthy and not ice cream.paul
I second the iron level check it's a sign of severe anaemia x
After my transplant I could be found in the Bathroom of my room playing with ice cold water, and I do have almost every soft drink with ice, perhaps it needs looking into? We even bought a fridge with an ice maker, perhaps I have a secret fetish?
I had this too. CRAVED ice. I’m anemic and taking iron supplements. Craving went away.
Hang in there.
I developed a taste for ice when I was pregnant with my first son who is now 27, but it was when I was in hospital in 2012 it really got a grip!! All water jugs came with loads of ice.... I am sure it’s iron related as I was having blood transfusions for very low iron at the time. I don’t have the urge to chomp on it so much now... But if it’s there-I have to crunch it... 😂
27?! You dont look old enough to have a ten year old! Time has been out to fancy you that way hasnt it 🙂
I used to eat the ice out of my soft dri k cups religiously. My daughter does it as well. No reason we did other than a comfort thing. Now it makes me teeth hurt lol
I agree with everyone else. Get your iron levels checked. I had the urge to crunch ice all day long when I first had cirrhosis. Turned out I needed to have iron medication 3 times a day and a transfusion if my memory serves me right. Try not to worry as once they get you on medication for it the urge to eat ice does go away xx
I had the problem of eating ice, after blood test's i had to go for intravenous drip as it turned out i was really anaemic amazed i was still functioning.
