What scan did you have?

And I just read your previous post I was diagnosed with alcoholic cirrhosis but it turned out to be through an existing condition I have polycystic ovaries and I am now post transplant and it's effecting my new liver

Hi jojokarak thanks for replying, it was a ultrasound scan that’s been done, it’s confushed me more with the doctor saying Iv had previous abnormal liver function tests, it’s good if it is the case but still confusing none of the less. Sorry to here about your new liver, yes I thought that too that I may have polycystic overuse only because I have the odd facial hair on jawline. A friend just said that it be the doctor who looks more into the results then the person who did the scan. But then if their was something wrong would the scan man tell me.

The scan person really shouldn't be saying anything especially if it's your first one it's only because I been in enough that I can handle the bad news... But someone senior will look over the results 😉

Abnormal results can come up from anything as well even if you have an infection it can send them off I really hope you get to the bottom of it as not knowing is the worst and I wish I could be more help x

I don’t know where my reply has gone. Yeah I thought the guy wasn’t allowed to say anything as usually Iv had wait till you see the doctor for your results. Ah ok that’s a little rubbish then if infections can cause abnormal enzymesz. Iv been to docs for some antidepressants but she said she don’t want to give me anything till Iv had my bloods done as if they come back again abnormal then need to be further investigated but also antidepressants can cause abnormal liver enzymes too. She was surprisingly nice today lol

You have abnormal bloods but a normal scan - ultrasound doesn't really pick up early damage or mild changes - a normal scan is quite good news.

U/S generally can pick up the liver shape and texture changes of cirrhosis.

You don't have to have liver damage to have abnormal bloods and indeed you can have normal bloods with very advanced liver disease.

It is up to your doctors to explain what they think is going on, LFT's can be out of range for a whole number of reasons.

Hi AyrshireK thanks for your reply also, makes sense here then, hopefully il know more after tomorrow’s bloods, going to try and relax a little and not worry to much. Il be certainly asking questions on the next visit for the results.

I hope that your liver is in good shape. When I had My original liver ultrasound the radiographer said I had fatty liver but she'd seen much worse and that half of the population has fatty liver. When my gp got the report it said established cirrhosis. I later had a liver biopsy and the liver specialist said it suggested AIH and there was no fatty liver. After sending my blood tests and biopsy etc to a professor it is now thought to be cirrhosis caused by fatty liver 😲 in all this time my LFTs have been virtually normal. I'm completely confused 😕

Wow yeah sounds it, the body is amazing but yet can be very confusing at times. Thank you I’m going to try not to stress till I know what’s been said by my dr. I understand what your saying totally, it’s mad isn’t it how things can be different from tests and scans and how we feel. Have you seen the post that AyrshireK has said.

Morning, I am in the same situation as you. I’ve had high LFT’s picked up in January, similar picture in February and March. I had an ultrasound and it was confirmed by then that I did not have fatty liver but gallstones... I have been tested for everything possible and the doc is confused by the high levels as he isn’t convinced that the gallstones are causing the high levels as I do not have any pain / symptoms - so nothing to suggest it’s inflamed ( no blockage). So I am booked to see the gastroenterologist on 22ns May. Since January I’ve been worrying and obsessing.. I hope at my long awaited gastro Appointment I’ll have some

Actual tests / procedures on the day without another consultation and lengthy wait. 😩

I don't want to upset you, but apart from bloods, I have never had any tests/ procedures done when I have been for a consult with my gastro.

Based on what has been done previously, and what they think is going on, they will make a plan ( hopefully) and advise what tests might be needed to get an answer if they don't already have one. The only test you might get done on the same day would be an ultrasound for which you would get an appointment.

Make sure you go with your questions written down, as they are not usually great at offering info but will answer questions you put to them. All the very best:)

Thanks for the response. I’ll get some questions ready like you say. Thank you
