Hi Dazza, & I got steatohepatitis (fatty, inflamed liver) from my nightly beer-fest's 10 years ago. Really felt like I must have pushed things a bit too far and my liver was toast. I also tapered off to avoid a medical detox.

Happy to report this worked for me, & I've got a decade of good health behind me. There is life after alcohol, and it ain't all that bad.

My fatty liver started improving before I'd even finished my taper. It was wonderful to be able to sleep on my right side again.

The secret with tapering is to never relapse into a binge. I went slow & steady and this worked for me.

Best of Luck, & let us know how this turns out.

Hi Dazza, drinking alcohol will affect your sleep drastically. The irony is if a drinker has a night off, they can’t sleep, but after a few weeks of cutting down or preferably stopping, you’ll sleep way better. Sleep quality after drinking alcohol is poor. It’s highly likely that’s what’s making you tired.

Fatigue not so noticeable until I started tapering and during recovery. It took about 90 days for me to get back on an even keel again.

I appreciate that stopping drinking is a real challenge. That said I'm sure you know too that getting a definitive result on how fatty your liver is is a distraction.Stopping drinking will help no end. You have the potential to recover, by reducing your fatty liver. Some of us have to stop eating the foods that we love to reduce liver fat. You need to discuss this with your Dr because you may need meds to prevent you having seizures due to withdrawing from alcohol. Most people have a reason they drink. The thought of stopping may fill you with dread because like thousands of others, you may have to face why you got into this? Its known as self medicating, your escape from what you can't deal with. As alcohol is a depressant it is a viscious circle.

Prescribed meds caused my liver problems. Being overweight added to my liver fat. So many people only discover their liver is seriously damaged when they have severe cirrhosis, so you need to see this as a golden opportunity to recover and have a long life. The thing we all agree on is no one is judgemental and we will support you. I truly hope you can stop drinking. your worth it Hazelx

Thank you hazel turning point told me I could just stop 10 units of alcohol a day after 5 years they said i wont get medicated would have to be on 20 units a day

Dazza85, if anyone told you that, ask for a second opinion. In fact, who told you that medication is only for 20+ a day?

The safe limit is now set at 14 units a week, right or wrong that’s the guidelines they must work to. Ten units a day is a massive amount - I know because it was my daily consumption, and I got Campral prescribed. It wasn’t a magic pill, but it was a help.

If what you’re saying is true, there is some massive fobbing off going on. Write some clear points down and go back to your GP.

Its great that you have already started working towards stopping. This is needed and it has to come from you. Your worry about a fatty liver will likely go once you stop too. Ina ddition look at the money you will have , there is a lot of people who have shared how they achieved this too . You may have to change your friends if they are also drinking buddies, but your health has to come first. I wish you strength to do this.
