I had a lab report done exactly one month before. It recorded 164 GAMMA GGTP level. I was occasional drinker previously. I quit drinking then after. I did my report today it shows increaselevel 262. Though I had antibiotics since last three days due to throat infection. What may be the reason ?? What should I do? I am afraid. I am 46 years of AGE (Male)

We cannot offer medical advice, but you do not say what you have been diagnosed with? The best person to ask is your consultant. Your pharmacist may be able to advise if the particular antibiotic affects the liver, all meds listed on NICE guidelines show contra indications and side effects. There are numerous causes of liver problems and each of us also react differently to medications. The greatest antidote to fear is to confront the fear ie find out what has caused you concern. I saw my consultant last week and asked him re other meds I am on. He was so helpful. Its about risk assessment a lot of the time. An example would be so you dont take anything for your sore throat. You become really poorly ? I am a little confused about you having a lab report done too? If this is all you are using to assess your liver you also need a qualified consultant to translate your results. My bloods on my liver always show normal. My consultant is doing further tests because fibroscans showed fatty liver, then reduced fat levels but mild fibrosis. Then severe and my last one in December indicated cirrhosis. I saw a different consultant and he said verbally I had cirrhosis but his report to my GP was not as difinitive. I have not drank alcohol for 15 years. After contracting a virus I went of it big time. Even the smell of red wine made me feel sick. There is a helpline on the site you can ring but just seeing a figure on one aspet would not be of any use. To get the rigt advise you need to get a confirmed diagnosis. A liver consultant can then guide you on your best course of action. You have stopped drinking which is a great start. Diet is also important as fattly liver can develope into fibrosis/cirrhosis. Love food but since mid December I have shed 17kg. Eating clean doesnt cost more and not having take aways actually reduces cost. On a lighter note I now have a lot of clothes that are hanging off me. Replacing them will be expensive but my health is way more important. Hazelx
