Hi, I've been having symptoms for 18 months that have been getting progressively worse. Due to my lifestyle it all seems to clearly point to my liver. It would be wonderful if it was all in my head but its not. I had 3 sets of liver function tests and an ultrasound done privately today which have all come back normal. My husband is getting annoyed because he thinks no matter what I'm told I still won't believe the doctors but he's not inside my body and I get annoyed back at him because I know he thinks it's something else or I'm just a bit obsessive. My symptoms are gastro problems with fatty foods, upper right quadrant pain that radiates to my back, irregular periods that have always been regular until onset of symptoms (not hormonal or menopause, I'm 36 and had hormones checked), oily stools, sweating that is always much worse the day after drinking even if its one beer, the heat comes off my liver area and heats up my whole body, 2 episodes of horrendous under the skin stinging itch at night, once after my last drop of alcohol 6 weeks ago and once 3 weeks ago when I took an amitriptyline to help me sleep, I've since read that amitriptyline is not advised for patients with liver disease. The sweating is also worse after I take paracetamol so I haven't taken any for 6 weeks either. I drank very heavily in my twenties and binge drank at weekends in my early 30s although my alcohol intake has been low these past 2 years. I'm also on long term pain medication for neuropathy. I've made changes to my lifestyle but has anyone experienced symptoms that pointed directly to their liver but they found that results were coming back normal. I'm glad so far things look normal but this is not in my head and the signs point clearly to my liver. Especially the things like the sweating and itching that are exacerbated by medication and alcohol. These symptoms started 18 months ago after a period of time where I exceeded the dose of paracetamol that was recommended over a period of days. Thank you for any replies x
So far all results normal: Hi, I've been... - British Liver Trust
So far all results normal
have you had a gallbladder check. you may need a scan. see your doctor i hope things get sorted out for you.
Yes my gallbladder was checked in ultrasound when my liver was checked. It came back as normal too. Thanks x
I would suggest you to take ct scan. I think my symptoms is quite similar with yours. I had multiple set of blood test, ultrasound, endoscopy and colonoscopy which all come back normal except for bilirubin level at 18 (slightly high) but symptoms have been geeting worse.. currently my bowel motion keep on floating and yellowish and i m afraid it might indicate pancreas/gallbladder problem. I also loosing some weight.
Do you experiencing the same issue?
My friends also getting annoyed with me.. 😅 and said that i should go see psychiatrist cuz i wont believe the doctors and this is all mind set..
My symptoms are somewhat similar to yours. Upper right quadrant pain almost daily. It’s not excruciating, but a dull pain. Every now and the I’ll get a sharp stinging. My ultrasound showed a fatty liver but that’s it. My liver enzymes are normal so doctors say that’s what it is, a simple fatty liver. I have had some other blood tests show up abnormal so we are currently exploring that.
I have fatty liver, gall stones etc - but they say it’s not that causing my diarrhoea issues so currently being tested for malabsorption and collitis. Usual culprits are wheat and dairy apparently. I’ve hd episodes of spending hours on the toilet, sweating, feeing or being sick, in pain and that pain continuting for a few days after like someone is wringing a towel out right under my ribs in the middle. So more tests. It is annoying. My doctor wouldn’t believe there was anything wrong with gallbladder until I had a scan which showed 2 stones! Because I try not to moan about my pain all the time, my partner forgets but sometimes gets annoyed.
Thanks for your replies. I'm sorry that so many of you are suffering too. Its frustrating being told its all in your mind. My husband says I won't believe I don't have liver disease until someone cuts me open and says there is nothing wrong and he's absolutely right, I know what's happening inside my body and it's not normal. Last night I couldn't sleep due to feverish sweats and chills all radiating from my right side. I could literally draw with a marker exactly where the liver is. Ajo I've had orange oliy stools but now my bowel movements are of normal colour but always oily. The pain i feel around my liver area is a dull ache, it's more of a niggle on and off reminding me something is going on. Its easy for others to say its my thyroid or some other thing but it's always pointing towards my liver. Daneesha I hope your test results are OK, I know how scary it is to wait on these. My last set of lfts I was a wreck.
I will continue to eat well, stay away from alcohol and excersise. Its the only thing I can do til I get to the bottom of what's going on. X
I have oily, yellow diherrea probably steatorrhea and URQ pain for 2 years now, ultrasound, colonoscopy,ct scan, Bile acid malabsorbtion scan the works and nothing has been found. I was a round the clock drinker for 4 years. It's is getting so scary and frustrating
