Hi all,

Well, an interesting day. Went up to see the liver guy at qe following referral from RUH Bath. First time up there (amazing building - looks like an airport!!)

Within about 5 mins of seeing him he declared I was suitable to go on the transplant list and he will start the ball rolling today!!

This took my partner and me (way more her than me) totally by surprise. Thought it would be a ‘nice to meet you see you again in 6 months’ visit!! But oh no!! Clearly I’m more poorly than I thought!!! Does this mean I’ll have to give up working 6 days a week!?? My other half is still wandering around in a daze going ‘oh s£&@‘!!!

I must say the journey so far for me has been quite something else. A bit of a whirlwind, but incredibly well managed. For those who are on here frustrated with the process, stick with it. You’ll get there.

I can only say how fantastic the treatment, attention and thoroughness has been. All sorts of weird and wonderful tests (even a right heart catheter!!). I’d name the staff personally but I know that’s against the rules.

Suffice it to say they all have my heartfelt thanks. On to the next stage!! Gulp!!!

Andy

Hi Andy congrats 😊

Never been qe myself I under Leeds

Regarding work If you feel fine and you're enjoying work, no reason to stop, obviously you just need a chat with your boss about the potential of getting a call and having to shoot off to hospital..

I am sure we will see you on the other side of your journey soon enough x

They don't mess around, lol. I think your next step will be to go through the formal assessment process. It's a 3 day affair at Birmingham. One day, then come back a few weeks later for the remaining two days. You'll probably get a phone call in the next few weeks to sort out an appropriate date. After that you'll get formal confirmation of whether or not you'll be listed.

With regards to work. If you feel fit enough to work then keep doing so. There's no reason to do otherwise. I was in work right up to when I received my call. Ok, i did get caught a few times falling asleep at my keyboard, but never the less I was still in work. You will though need to let them know what's happening. They'll need to put things in place to cover you whilst you are absent and usually at very short notice. So the sooner you get things in order the better.

Good luck and best wishes.

Hello,

The news that you are to be considered for listing is a major shift in thinking and as you know can take a while to sink in.

However, there are plenty of us who have already trod this path and can guide you a little along the way.

I don't normally recommend anything other than the British Liver Trust website and advise keeping away from some of the weird and wonderful Facebook groups. However, there is, if you don't know already, a good Facebook Group dedicated to the Birmingham Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It is moderated reasonably well by people who also do some good work within the hospital supporting liver patients.

In the meantime, take care and keep us informed of your progress.

Jim

Hi Hugy7614,

I'm sure that the speed can be a bit of a shock.

I'm not sure it means you are worse than you thought or if maybe the team felt you currently fit the criteria and are healthy enough for a transplant.

Best wishes,

Mary
