I was just wondering as cannabis was something I enjoyed long before my transplant, my health issues were obviously not related, I do miss using it and was wondering if anybody post transplant still smokes and if they have any side effects?

when i was on the ribavarin and interferon there was a report saying that most of the people who smoked cannabis where the ones who stuck out their treatment compared to those who didnt and a lot of them gave it up as it was pretty ghastly. yes i did smoke it but i dont now as it gets in the way of my life but not everyone is like this. its like alcohol some people enjoy a drink and get on with thier life its just a way to unwind and relax but not me. when i drank that came before anything and the dope was the same so iv given it up. i think they should legalise it. as its so helpful for all those things mentioned. all those little children having so many fits a day are now better because of it. im sure it cant be far off now. mind you it may put the pharmaceutical companies out of a lot of business. i did clear the hep c so it didnt harm me. it helped me then. wishing you well. love grace xoxo

Hi Dan,

There has been research that suggests that marijuana / cannabis is helpful in many different illnesses and conditions.

Cannabis is legal for personal and medicinal use in a few countries but not the UK.

Until smoking marijuana/ cannabis is legal, its clearly going to be frowned upon and of course nobody here would encourage a criminal offence.

This is from our website;

"Cannabis is a psychoactive drug. It can aid relaxation (though may also induce anxiety and paranoia). It is linked to untoward effects on motivation and judgement. It is also linked to the “gateway theory”, where people who start using this drug may move onto other harmful drugs. There are some clinical reports of direct effects on the liver. As such, the use of cannabis is actively discouraged."

Sorry if that's not the answer you wanted, but please stay in this forum for the support and advice that we are all happy to give when you're having difficulties with any liver issues.

Best wishes
