Hi all, posting on behalf of a friend, can you still have liver disease or a damaged liver with a normal GGT, normal ALP and normal ALT?? Thanks in advance!
Normal GGT : Hi all, posting on behalf... - British Liver Trust
Normal GGT
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Yes, often people with fatty liver have normal liver enzymes. It's when the liver is stressed that the enzymes may shoot up. Mine have gone up and down over the years as I have hemachromatosis, fatty liver, and I was put on an awful drug for my atrial fibrillation called amiodarone and it did a number on my liver. My enzymes shot way up. But once my liver settled down the enzymes came down to normal. I still have significant disease. When the enzymes are elevated it means the liver is inflamed at that time. Just eat right, cut out the alcohol, exercise, and inform your doctor of all the medications and herbs you take. They often can do a number on a person. I still have to take a lot of meds due to my cardiac issues, but I have to, but I'm off the amiodarone!! The half life of that drug is up to 150 days, so when you discontinue it, the damage is still being done. My liver enzymes eventually went down after going off of it. Good luck.
