Oh I'm the least religious person you'll ever meet (often anti religion but don't want to start an argument 😬) but there's no denying there's some amazing religion inspired art. The Sistine Chapel and Sagrada Família are simply mesmerising.

Yup, the theatre of the Santiago de Compostela, like you though, the man up top is a deity for me.

I'm in total agreeance . As a bit of an artist myself religious art is of some of the most amazing. The paintings, the architecture is truly amazing. Not to mention the fascination I find in how it has shaped history. I'm the least religious person I know of as well but I must admit growing up with my background a did spend a few years as an alter boy believe it or not 😅. But that's just how it goes. It would be interesting to see how many people from non religious backgrounds would " find God"compared to the amount of people who follow merely because they were born and raised into its belief. But I let people think whatever they want as long as they dont break one simple rule and that is to not have what you do harm others. Something religion is not very innocent of.

Creationism the museum. Oh I wish I had seen this earlier in the month. I would have asked for tickets for xmas. The "Jobs available " section feels most daunting so far. Gives a different vibe to the word recruitment lol
Hi there. My favourite is Greg Lake, I believe in father christmas. Only 13 at the time and one of those songs that make you so nostalgic and wistfull. I hear Coldplay have a good one this year but not heard it. We built this city on sausages rolls no 1 this year. Really ??? Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and all the best for the new year especially those who are having really tough time right now. Xx
I'm from Manchester and sadly one of our extended family died in the Arena bombing. He was only 29 and a one man hen party. So I'm supporting we built this city on sausage rolls. We went to the RHS at Tatton this year and there was a garden all about Manchester with various messages dotted about, such as Manchester, a city that thinks a table is for dancing on.
A despicable and heart breaking waste. Bless them and all their loved ones. My son was having a joke about the song with me a view days ago so I text and explained what it was about. He said that he thinks the song is brilliant, since he found out the meaning of it. He just neglected to tell me!!
You can’t beat a bit of Slade at Christmas. Upbeat and fun to dance to. I had a bad Christmas last year so going to make this one as good as I can. Thinking of all and wishing you a merry Christmas whether you are in good times or bad 🎅🏻☃️🎉🎄
Can’t beat a bit of Slade at any time of the year. Going to see them live in Brighton on 29th. 50 yrs anniversary tour. The memories of Earls Court 1974 come flooding back. “Keep on Rockin”. 😂 kev
No. Can't knock the Slade. Bing Crosby and David Bowie little drummer boy/peace on earth. Winter wonderland.
All the best

Hi KLDN,
I'm not sure I have a favorite. I like so many and for different reasons. I like some from church, some from movies - mostly the older [much] ones. Some songs I like when heard done by a great choir/chorus, but not as much otherwise. I like do like Grandma got Runover by a Reindeer, too.
My favourite Xmas song has to be Wonderful Christmastime- Paul McCartney followed by Merry Christmas Everyone- Shakin’ Stevens or Fairytale of New York
Happy Christmas to my British friends across the pond!
This site is amazing. Not only can you learn everything you need to know about your medical issue; you can also crack-up at the cultural differences between Americans and Brits! (Do you say ‘crack up?’)
We Americans are not allowed to mention even *the possibility* that we may not be religious. You simply can’t do it in public! (And you must be very careful in private, as well.) I am envious of the freedom you all have as you discuss your religious preferences on this thread.
Favorite Christmas movie? Elf, hands-down. Could Will Ferrell be any funnier?!
Favorite Christmas song? “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” (especially when sung by James Taylor) ... and “Baby, it’s Cold Outside,” (covered on the aforementioned Elf).
Btw, there is currently a controversy in America about the “Baby” song, even amongst feminists. I personally love the flirting between the couple. Are Brits fond of this song?
“Fairytale of New York” is the most popular Christmas song in Britain? I had never heard of it ... need to up my game! What a lovely voice Kirsty MacColl has, very sad to read of her untimely death. The lyrics and video would probably not fly over here … there’s the hint of violence between the couple, and the Religious Right would consider it blasphemous towards Christmas. (However, super-violent videos are A-OK in certain groups? ... the dichotomy is baffling.)
Finally, a question - I read that in Britain, “Drinking alcohol profusely is encouraged at most work events and the rejoicing together the next day with a unanimous hangover.” True? Drinking at work parties used to be popular in America, but recently has fallen out of favor. I wonder if drinking and alcohol-related cirrhosis rates are higher in Britain than America? I could look it up, but need some coffee at the moment! ☕️
I find it baffling how ingrained religion is in American politics and public life. This is a country that practically invented the separation of church and state! In central and northern Europe at least, religion is rarely ever discussed, let alone being imposed on people. Czech Republic is 75% atheist, I wish more countries would follow suit.
Drinking, often to excess, is a big part of British culture. I remember we had a Christmas party at my last job where everyone got wasted. In the morning the manager was giving everybody Bloody Marys to cure the hangover 😳.
Thanks for the culture tip ... glad you guys crack-up as well! Yeah, the religion thing in the U.S. is soooo weird and even drives policy issues, like health care (right to die, medicinal marijuana, abortion, etc. etc.) I don’t get it, either! About alcohol, getting even slightly drunk at a work event is now verboten, at least if you want to keep your job. (This has been a cultural shift over the past 25 years or so.) Cracks me up that the your boss brought around Bloody Marys! ... that would SO not fly here. Interesting! 🧐
Last Christmas, All I want for Christmas is you, o holy night, O come all Ye faithful, actually I can’t choose, all of them. One of my favourite films is Home Alone and Meet me in St Louis - the wonderful Judy Garland. Bit late but Merry Christmas everyone! X
