Getting pain in the abdomen

Hi everyone

Lately if I drink any alcohol, for instance last night was one beer, after maybe 10 minutes I get a really bad pain on the right side of my abdomen.

I had it last week so didn’t drink all week and last night was the first beer and it started again.

Today it’s still in pain but based on last week it would clear after a few days.

Got a blood test booked in with doctors over some other things and the LFT is part of this so will maybe know more after but finding it strange that I get this pain during drinking if that makes sense!

Anyone got any thoughts?

Horrible feeling it’s going to be alcoholic hepatitis as I have been drinking moderately for the past several months and over past 10 years has been on and off over the usual limits

Hello,

You can wait for tests ,and they may come back negative. But, If drinking irritates your side, or causes pain ,then stop drinking,at least for now. I have had the same problem. No tests indicate that I have any serious liver problem, but I know when I drink alcohol it flares up. I had my gallbladder removed and had pain in my right side ever since off and on. I do have a mild fatty liver so I’m not going to gamble on drinking anymore. The few times I have, I just had like 2 drinks. Two doesn’t do much for me so, I’m thinking I will be hitting the Water. Good luck

Hi djc

Welcome to this fantastic forum 😁

Well, recounting my experience and trying hard not to give advice because it’s you that has to decide what to do, hopeffully with some great advice from those that know (doctors/consultants):-

I used to get pain in right side but not until about 18 hours after yet another night’s drinking. Now this idiot found that having a few beers 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 made the pain go away, so you can guess what I did.

I was advised by doctor to maybe consider cutting back on the vimto or stopping. But it was only advice wasn’t it? So I carried on regardlessly. ☹️. Eventually saw a consultant who said stop drinking or else. Now something finally got through to my little brain and I stopped! Way way too late though 😕. 4 years later a tp literally saved me. But what a stupid person was I!!

So hope you are OK and you have the power to make all the right decision, whatever “right” is 😁

Good luck

Hi and thank you for your replies

I have already made the decision to stop drinking.

Bloods was done and results were ;

Liver function tests

Serum albumin level 44 g/L [35.0 - 50.0]

Serum total bilirubin level 26 umol/L [0.0 - 20.0]

Above high reference limit

Serum alkaline phosphatase level 72 U/L [30.0 - 130.0]

Serum alanine aminotransferase level 63 U/L [7.0 - 40.0]

Above high reference limit

What this means im not sure but have had a telephone appointment booked with doctor but not until next Monday!

Any thoughts?
