Hubby has had a bad night, he was exhausted yesterday after drain on Wednesday. Got home Thursday.
Before bed last night he was sick, hadn't eaten all day, only had a little ensure and some water.
Put his feed on last night, and he brought it all back up at 5 this morning.
Just went up and his bowels have moved big time! He is covered!
Has anyone else had this?

Without jumping to any wrong conclusion, this may not be liver related, but simply something he may have picked up while at the hospital. It should be remembered that hospitals are notorious places to pick up an infection. I think if you was to ring NHS 111, they'll most likely advice you to wait 24-hours to see if symptoms clear. Just to be on the safe side, check to make sure that the vomit and diarrhoea isn't black in colour. If it is, get him up to A&E or call an ambulance.
Sorry to hear that, really tough on you. Any sign of any blood call an ambulance. I caught a nasty infection after a drain, not picked up in the initial samples. Shame it is Saturday, I would call 111 and take advice. It’s possible that an ambulance would be required. How is the drain site looking, is there more than usual leaking? That was the indicator of my infection.
I hope all goes well for hubby and its fantastic that he has someone like you to take care of him and not wait until its a complete emergency. you wifes are a fantastic lot of the posts i read. xoxo
Edinburgh called me back, call 111 and ask for district nurses number.. I called 111 and they don't give out this info, and district nurses won't come out to discuss feeds! Now waiting on a call back from 111, in the next 3 hours. One thing for sure, hubby won't be getting that feed again until someone tells me it's not that! Edinburgh didn't know who changed it. Phaff.. Oh didums!
District nurses around here are a bloody nightmare Virgin Health Care, do not expend needless energy on that cul de sac. Poor response from 111. Might be a good idea to call an ambulance 🚑. Is he still struggling?
They will assess him at home and make the call if he needs to go in. A report will go to the GP.
I'll wait and see what this call involves, he hasn't ate, drank or taken his meds yet. Sitting sleeping. Think all the trauma earlier has taken it out of him . Took my sister and me an hour to get him washed, then out of bed, then washed again. Was forced to call for help this morning, no way would I have been able to deal with this myself. My sister was a good nurse for 40 years, so didn't mind one bit coming to help. She said anytime I need her, she will be there, that's my priceless sister.
Great to hear you have support, especially someone with medical training. In the current maelstrom, remember that your husband is very ill and listed for transplant. As mentioned, I picked up a post drain infection, 17 days in isolation.
Well didn't get a call back from nhs24. He hasn't spoken, eaten, drank, took meds or moved all day. Wrenched a lot since 4-00 this afternoon. I just made a cup of tea, he won't take water. He will not be on tube feed tonight until I have answers. If no improvement by tomorrow it will be hospital .. He will have no choice.
Wrenching is a sign of blood poisoning, I know I had it, trust me your husband does not know what he is doing get him to hospital. So much better to be safe than sorry, I had a shunt put through my liver to help blood flow, the result was blood poisoning as the Liver could not sort the blood. Woke up in Grasse Hospital as we lived in France, didnt know what had happened
Doc came out lat night and gave h injection for sickness. He drank a glass of water at midnight and managed to go to bed. I didn’t put on feed. I will get hold of district nurse tomorrow about feed. Hopefully he will eat and drink today. New day and chin up, thank you all .
Hi. Sorry to hear you're both having a rough time. I've never had a drain so I don't know much there. I had to go into with a bad bowel problem 2 years ago. My liver wasn't good either. My stomach got worse after I went in and, as Richard 64 mentioned, I contracted a chest infection and an uti after admission. Steroids gradually helped with sickness and appetite. Is you husband due to see anyone soon? If the sickness and stomach trouble persists it might be advisable. Keeping hydrated and electrolyts balanced is a must as I'm sure know.
I really hope he gets better quickly and remember to take care of yourself. Best wishes
Right. I did wonder when you said had a feed if that meant medically fed. I'm not really aware of this either. I do hope you make progress tomorrow. He's sounds really poorly and I do know how hard caring can be. Bye for now.
Hubby was a bit better yesterday and today. Put him back on feed last night, half doze, half speed. Been ok today. Will put him on 3/4 for a couple of night before going back on full doze. Glad that's all behind us! That was a nightmare! Fingers crossed x
