It could, or it could mean that something didn't show up. Sometimes when you have certain score levels in your Liver Function Blood test, further test are required. Some of these test are to try and Identify if anything is wrong, and to rule out what it's not. Having a scan with contrast is a normal procedure, so try not to worry.

I would warn against asking the MRI technologist too many questions. These people are skilled in the operation of the machine, but are not qualified to give a medical interpretation of the image they've produced. This will be done by the consultant once he/she has had time to analyse the image. This means having to endure a waiting game for the results.

I hope everything goes well. Just try and remember that you are now in safe hands, and that everyone now has your medical interests at heart.

Best Wishes.

Hi, there is no need to worry, I was given a mri with contrast 2 weeks ago but usually have a ultrasound. I always look at it this way... If there is anything wrong then it won't go away on its own... So best to know about it. I don't think everything shows up on ultrasound. They put a cannula in, pop you in for 20 mind, put contrast in, you can't feel it, another 20 mind, no problem just chill out. Then out you come, don't ask them anything, wait to see the boss in about 2 weeks. Now before the mri go to it with clothes with absolutely no metal in not even a popper, then no hassle with getting changed. After mri just get on with your life till results, if you feel OK then just enjoy. As my consultant said.. You get on with life we will do the worrying, ha

Hi guy!

I had an MRI scan after an ultrasound because with the US scan they couldn’t, in MY case, get a clear picture of the whole of the portal vein. They did this with the MRI scan

I have had a couple of MRI scans with contrast. It can take a while to get the results, but in my case, they used it to get an explanation for abnormalities in the size of the lobes of my liver. It doesn't mean they have found anything ominous it is just an opportunity to explore further with a better tool. I always enjoy the opportunity to have a laydown.

Agreed with Richard. It could be that your ultrasound is to squeaky clean when compared to your blood work. Meaning the 2 tests are conflicting a bit. In that case they likely are wanting to double check they didnt miss anything on the imaging.
