Elevated GGT, ALT and Copper levels

Hi Everyone. I'm just looking for anyone that has had something similar or any ideas. For many years I've had issues with slightly elevated GGT and ALT levels. Recently after blood work my levels were still slightly elevated so my doctor sent me off for an Ultrasound. US came back all normal including kidney, gallbladder. My doctor still confused sent me off for more blood work and it came up that my copper levels were slightly elevated aswell. Could this be Wilson Disease? I feel really good and have no other symptoms. Would love anyone who has any ideas. Thank you :)

The body stores excess copper in the liver, and this can result in inflammation as copper can generate "reactive oxygen species" (oxidative stress). GGT elevation is consistent with this type of issue as GGT is a measure of glutathione turnover; glutathione being the bodies master antioxidant.

Wilson's is a possibility your doc will need to rule out, but there are other possibilities as well. If you're female, hormonal birth control and copper coil IUD's have been associated with copper elevation. Vegans/Vegetarians sometimes also get more dietary copper. Some tattoo inks contain copper (blue & green), that can leach into the body.

Copper plumbing can also be problematic, particularly if you drink water that has been sitting in the copper pipe for a time. A seldom used drinking fountain at work may have water sitting the copper supply line for a day or more before you tap it for water. Ice makers also may have water sitting in the supply line for a considerable amount of time between cycles. Copper cubes!

Some supplements, particularly multivitamins "with minerals" contain more copper than may be wise if you're getting copper from other sources. Liver & seafood is also high in copper.

Some detective work may be in order, but if you do your homework, you may find where this copper is coming from. Hope you get to the bottom of this soon!

Thank you for your very detailed reply. :) Yes, the doctor did mention that sometimes the pill can effect copper and liver function levels. I only drink bottled water and don't take any vitamins currently. I have been doing research on Wilson's and usually your copper levels in your blood come back low and your copper levels in your urine come back high. I will for sure be mentioning WD to the specialist. Looking forward to my appointment and hopefully getting some answers because I think I'm crazy googling everything possible haha. Thanks again
