I read on the internet that something like 20% of people who have had an abdominal (or is that an abominable) operation go on to develop hernias. Oh why oh why do I google things like this aaagghh!
The reason I googled it is because I got told off at clinic at QEHB for carrying a carrier bag with my packed lunch, medicines, needles etc etc in. “You’ll get a hernia!” The nurse said. 🤗.
Of course Mr Hypochondriac old me is now worried at stomach pains and bumps! Yoiks.
Has anyone else had this? I rang QEHB and they said to go to A & E, but you know how it is. It’s either in the mind and/or it will go away!
Ah well, better go docs - A & E seems such an overkill..

Sometimes (umm most of the time 😁) I’m a wuzz 😁, a big coward really. But I keep getting told by family to think glass half full not glass half empty (odd this correlation to drinking lol!) and I am sooo much better than before the tp. It’s just I now think I should practice what I preach on here and get meself dern to docs 😁. Look I can’t even write accents let alone speak them hehe.

Hi 2asMiles. As I left hospital after my transplant I shared a lift with a youngish man who was that day going to have an op on his hernia(s). He said that he had had a liver transplant 3 years ago. I looked on the internet a few days later and saw a photo of a man that had 2 ugly looking hernias after liver transplant, it certainly scared me into not lifting that kettle! lol. Apparently if you get a hernia soon after transplant they won't operate for a year because they have to give the transplant scar and tissue time to heal first. So go careful and remember don't use that hoover!!! Take care. Alf

Hi, I’ve got a lovely hernia due to the Ascites I had earlier on in prognosis, I’m very slight and my belly was huge. Now my Ascites is under control it doesn’t seem to be as obvious ( belly button was pushing out) and I don’t get much pain anymore.
I’m not sure to be honest if they can get better in time if rested but the transplant team don’t seem too concerned with mine at the moment .
But as grandmadylan said do get a backpack ( or in my case an understanding partner!) to carry items . I got told off initially for carrying shopping , hoovering, putting rubbish bins out etc .... but by then I already had mine.
Minimise bending and any strain in that area and that will reduce your risk of getting one or the effects If unfortunately you do

The amount of times I looked like a right arsehole when the wife was carrying the shopping or putting bags in the car during the first 6 months post transplant 🙄... Luckily she insisted I listened to the doctors so no hernias for me 😊.
Think I've hurt myself a bit as the week before last, decided to start intense gym sessions 6 nights a week 🏋️💪👊. Now I'm having a constant pain under the ribcage on the left hand side 😭. At least it's not the liver 😉.
I haven't had a tp but my fibromyalgia stops me vacuuming. I keep telling my husband if he buys me one of the super dooper cordless lightweight ones I can do it. He doesn't know but yesterday I cleaned out my daughter's skip on wheels. She has two small children and it was 'orrible in there. Her mother in law is having a huge marriage vowel renewal next week. Bridesmaids, pageboys etc and I can't let them turn up at this fancy wedding venue in a glorified bin! Mind you I suffered that night with horrendous pain.
